Anchorage 8/3-8/6

My brother and I are flying into Anchorage and would like to see glaciers, fjords, whales, moose, etc.

Any suggestions for tours, day boat trips, etc. in and w/in 75 miles or so of Anchorage?

Also, any other suggestions of things to do in and around that area?

My advice is to head south towards Seward.. a bit farther, but you will have the scenery and boat tours there.

another close option is going to Whittier, a quiet little town, but some boat tours and the ferry across the Sound to Valdez and Cordova leave from there.. Happy tavels, J.

I agree with the previous posters suggestion for Seward. It has all of what you asked about and is a great drive or train ride from Anchorage. To be sure of seeing animals, make a stop on the way at the Wildlife Sanctuary just outside of Girdwood along the Seward Hwy.

I also agree with going to Seward and taking the boat tours. Make sure to visit Portage Glacier and Exit Glacier on your way.

Another agreement. Do not base out of Anchorage and do day trips. You are short on time, you have the option for Denali park, which is significant for your moose priority, also varied land wildlife and excellent scenery, but would take up your entire time.

Seward offers plenty, with a Kenai Fjords boat tour, my preference is always the longest- Northwestern Fjords trips. However, these are NOT whale watches. It's varied wildlife, a given- sea lions, puffins. My averages have only run about 50% for whale sightings.

What about hotel suggestions? I have checked and some hotels are already sold out. Any suggestions for hotel websites?
