Amtrak NYC-Boston Out of Service
A freight train accident near NYC has severely damaged the overhead elecrical lines and Amtrak service between NYC and Boston has been cancelled. There is no word yet when it will be resumed.
Anyone with immediate plans should check out other options - like bus, plane or car rental.

The remaining trains (local rather than metroliner or Acela - which apparently can be routed differently) are now running several hours late - and departure of all trains is not guaranteed (since equipment scheduled for return may not be available due to extended travel times).

We were scheduled on the 10 a. m. today but changed to the 8:30 so as not to miss the "high school orientation" this evening. The train left on time but we arrived an hour later than scheduled after spending a lot of time on the tracks waiting to get through the derailment area. They were very apologetic about everything though.
