am traveling alone
May go to an Elderhostel program in early May---"5 museums---5 days"
Staying at Williams Inn.
Question:
I will be flying into ,Albany NY (via SWA) and the only transportation to Williamstown is Limo @
$88 dollars one way or taxi, about $90 !!!
NO shuttles available
It will cost about $ 200 (plus gas) AND
$ 15 night parking for 6 nights,
The "other" way I can get there is-----fly to Boston,go toSouth Station and take the Bonanza Bus line directly to Williams Inn--4 hrs. and $ 91 round trip
What would you do..???? .keeping in mind I am a senior lady experienced in traveling alone.

If I understand the math correctly, I would do the limo to and from for $88 each way. About the same (actually less) than a rental car that will sit there unused. Travel in style and a bit of luxury!

Since you're an experienced traveller, it seems like it distills down to how you want to spend your money balancing time, comfort and cash.
Limo/Taxi: $180 plus tip
Rental car: $200 plus gas and parking (if I interpreted your post correctly)
Bonanza Bus: $91 but presumably lots more time communting.
If it were me and budget were no issue, I'd rent a car for maximum flexibility.

Wow! Living near Albany I'm almost tempted to write, "I'll take you for $___"
You can't be the only one in this situation ... couldn't the folks at Elderhostel see if anyone else is arriving at any of the major airports and wants to share transportation?
BTW, SW serves Hartford CT too, and Peter Pan Buses stop @ airport continuing to Springfield.
Or how about students at Williams College? How do the ones without vehicles get back and forth? Any students looking to make %50???
Good luck.

How about $44 each way for Peter Pan bus from Hartford CT? I do not know if that's at Bradley Airport or not.

Also, if the Elderhostel program allows participants rights as Williams College students, they have shuttles to Albany for $16 and to Boston & NYC for $26

I seem to be monopolizing this thread.
I went to Bonanza's website
http://secure.gatewayticketing.com/b...eduleGrid.aspx
and got $19.50 each way from Albany to Williamstown, daily.
Bus#0410 BONANZA BUS LINES, INC. Depart 9:40 AM Arrove 2:50 PM Adult One-Way $19.50 Daily
Not so good on reverse trip (but by then you may have found someone to share a ride with):
Bus#0711 BONANZA BUS LINES, INC. Lv Will 10:00 AM Arrive Alb 12:30 PM Adult One-Way $19.50
Mon Fri Sat Sun Holidays
There are SOME Greyhound and Trailway buses that stop at Albany Airport & continue to the Albany Bus station, located downtown.
There are some LOCAL buses (the #1) that run between the airport & the bus station ... try www.cdta.org
There is also the "Shuttle-Fly" bus that runs from the airport to Colonie Center where you would transfer to the #55 bus. And of course there's taxi; I don't know how much, but I think all Albany Airport taxis are now metered.

I am impressed with the info ..
Thanks SO much- especially rb_travelerxAT yahoo.
I will investigate all of suggestions,
Because the EH. participants arrive at different time and days and many have cars, getting to Williams Inn could hard to plan,. However, in past i have been able to share a ride at the end of program..
Another possibility would be to post my need for a ride on the EH "chat" site.
Really appreciate the input.
