Public Transit to Mystic, CT?

Hello all,

Meeting up with a colleague in Mystic, CT. Arriving at the Hartford Airport. My colleague has a car, but I was wondering if there were any public transit options to get myself from Hartford to Mystic? I'm getting in around 5 p.m. I've searched all over and can't find a reasonable option. Looks like the best bet is a train that goes through New Haven, but it takes an awfully long time.

I am considering getting a taxi so my colleague doesn't have to drive all the way out. Any notion on how expensive that would be?

Thanks.

No transit, but there are probably buses that will take you to either Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun - putting you just a few minutes away from Mystic. Not sure how to get from the airport to the Hartford bus station though...probably best just to rent a car. It's only around a 50 minute drive from the airport to Mystic.

Are your reservations made? It's actually closer to Mystic if you fly into Providence, RI...(49 min/43 miles)and drive to Mystic vs 1 hr 17 min/66 miles from Bradley Int'l. In either case, taxi would be prohibitively expensive, but perhaps bus would be more convenient leaving from Providence? I've flown Southwest into Providence then driven to Mystic (my brother lives there)...not a bad drive at all.

Reservations are already made, I'm afraid. Probably should have looked into New Haven since I could have taken the train.

Looked into buses to Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun, but I couldn't find anything convenient. I can get from the airport to downtown Hartford via the bus (30 minutes), but I'm at a loss from that point forward.

I may just end up renting a car, which seems kind of wasteful since we'd then both have cars, but it seems like the cheapest option.

A quote I've seen for a taxi ride is something like $180, which is too much to be justified.

One last option is to look on craigslist for a rideshare down there. I've never done it, but may be worth looking into. Otherwise, rent a car and turn the car in once you are in Mystic. I would also encourage you to complain to the hotel where you are staying about the lack of options. If enough people complain, then CT may begin to look at transit options more seriously.

You can try a limo service from the airport. Probably would cost half of what the taxi fare is and you won't have to worry about driving. See:

Good Luck

Thanks for the replies. My colleague ended up driving out and picking me up. I took the Bradley Flyer bus from the airport to downtown Hartford, and met up with him at the Marriott. I figured the Marriott next to the convention center was the easiest way to get to me from the freeway.

I did find a bus that left downtown Hartford for Foxwoods at 7:45 that evening, but it didn't get into the casino until 10:40 p.m., which was rather late.
