Albany NY - best way from Amtrack to Airport?
Any hints on the best way to get from the Amtrack station in Rensalear over to the Albany Airport? My kid and I will be arriving mid afternoon on a Friday in August.
Is a cab the best bet? Why? If so, how much would it cost? Any other options?
Thanks for your help.

Cab is the best option for convenience. There is bus service, but it requires a connection in Albany, isn't super frequent, and would take quite a bit of time.
From where is he traveling? Have you looked into long distance bus service instead of Amtrak? There several bus lines that run up/down the Hudson valley and points further north, and some of them include stops right at ALB airport.

We are traveling from NYC. Taking Amtrak for a bit of nostalgia as when I used to live near Albany as a kid, my family and I would take the train down to NYC and back for the day.
We will be picking up our rental car at the airport and returning it there a week later. I checked rental rates and renting at the airport is comparable to other arrangements (downtown pick up, etc.).
Okay sounds like I'll make some taxi driver's day with that fare from the train station to the airport. But that's okay.
Thanks for you replies.

Taxi from the airport is fine - I don't know the cost off hand. You can often get a better rental car deal at an off-airport location, but in my experience the added cost of renting at ALB airport isn't high like it is as many airports.
Enterprise has an office right near the Rensselaer Amtrak station, and Hertz has two local offices in Albany, both of which are closer than the airport, but they may have limited hours.

I knew what you meant. No problem.
I was surprised, too, that at ALB the taxes aren't as high for rental cars than at other airports. Where I live, I know flying-in visitors take public transit into town and then rent their car.
Thanks.
