Airports close to Cape Canaveral?

Help, I've been checking flights from NY to Orlando for a cruise on April 16th (returning April 23rd), and the prices are just outrageous. I'm taking 7 people, so price is definitely an issue, and frankly, despite all of Delta's yakking, the fares are the highest I've ever seen for that route, and yes, I fly several times a year over school vacation times and have never had such a problem getting air.

Now I'm thinking it might be best to try alternate airports and drive further since these fares are so high. Can anyone recommend some alternate airports that I might find better fares to? Thank you!

nina, for the heck of it, I logged in LGA or any airport within 75 miles to MCO or any airport within 125 miles leaving April 16th and returning April 23 or the day after.

It gave me Islip to Tampa 4/16/05 returning Tampa to LGA 4/24/05 for $158 roundtrip. It would save you quite a bit of money and you could rent a van.

This is what it gave me:

Sort by Cost Airline From/To Stops Date Flight times Duration Class Warnings
1 Details $158 Delta
+ others ISP to TPA
TPA to LGA

Go to www.ITASoftware.com if you want to plug in your own dates.

You can't book with them but you can find the cheap flights then punch the info into SideStep.com to purchase.

Look at JetBlue. They fly out of JFK into Orlando and it sure is my airline of choice when I fly now. The prices are great and the planes are very comfortable, and each seat has a TV.

Check the website for availability www.jetblue.com.

Have a great time.

Jacksonville would be as close as Tampa but either way you'll also need to rent a car for a week, and maybe pay a drop-off. And you're talking a 3-hr. drive from either city.
