Advice for 5 free days in Alaska

I will be in Anchorage on business mid-May. I will be able to stay an additional 4-5 days, and was wondering where folks recommend I should visit. So far, I have thought about visiting Girdwood, Portage Glacier, Eklutna and Spencer Glacier, and possibly using Anchorage as a base. I look forward to your suggestions!

Girdwood has plenty to do there. Hike The Winner Creek Trail. Seward isn't much farther. Train is super nice way to get to Seward.

Head down towards Seward/Kenai Peninsula - you could stop in Girdwood. May is too early to go to Denali - roads will still be closed.

I wouldn't base all this time in Anchorage. If possible spend a couple days in Seward, loaded with activies.

I agree with Seward and Homer. You will enjoy your drive from Anchorage via Turnagain Arm, it had beautiful scenery. http://www.alaskascenes.com/turnagain.html
