Accurate Information About Park City Temperatures?
In checking the temperature in Park City, I see on weather.com (The Weather Channel), that the reading comes from Evanston, Wyoming. How far is that from Park City and is it at a comparable altitude? Is there a more reliable website where I can check how the weather is in Park City so that I can make wise decisions as to what to pack for our trip. Or can it be estimated as usually a certain number of degrees cooler than Salt Lake City? Thanks for your help.

Evanston is about an hour's drive from Park City and probably a close indicator of temperature. It's elevation is close to 7,000 ft but is not as closely surrounded by mountains as Park City. It is probably safe to estimate the weather using either Salt Lake or Evanston as a base, but understand that there can be vast differences. Evanston, btw, is a popular city for Northern Utahns to go to buy booze and other vices.

While I wouldn't want to argue with some one who lives in Park City, the historical data (past 50+ years) from the NOAA's Regional Climate Center strongly suggests that temperatures in Park City and Evanston are very similar. The average high temperature on a month by month basis throughout the year in the two cities is within 1 or 2 degrees of each other. The average low temperature is consistently about 5-7 degrees COLDER in Evanston than in Park City.

Dayle, we plan to spend the day in Park City on Sun. Sept. 21, and I would appreciate your advice about what to pack, also how to make the most of our time there. We have planned to take the gondola to the Canyons Resort. Which of three hikes from the Red Pine Lodge is the most scenic and least strenuous? Will there be a ski show at the Olympic Park? When do the shops close on Sundays? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Travelgirls,
Sorry for the delay in answering, I'v been super busy!
Our weather has turned to fall and the days are still warm enough to enjoy outdoors, just the right temps for hiking. Nights are getting cool.
I would check with both The Canyons and the Olympic Park to see if they are still operating the gondola and the summer aerial shows. I think they may be over since it's after Labor Day.
I haven't hiked around The Canyons myself. I don't like the place. If I hike around town it's around Deer Valley or Park City Mtn. Resort. Check out the www.parkcitymountain.com site for some of their fun activities. Highly recommend the Alipine Slide and the Zip Line!
You are coming at a great time of year! Bring some layers. A sweater or fleece and a light jacket will be plenty for evening or if it's a chilly day. Temps this week are in the 60's during the day and we may get our first snow way up high tonight! Colors are changing fast. Good sign for the coming ski season.
Plenty of great restaurants. If you are willing to spend $$$$, try Grappa, reservations needed. More moderate is the Grubsteak and The Sage Grill (in Kimball Junction), reasonable is The Eating Establishment.
Have fun!

Dayle, thanks for your advice. We leave Florida tonight. The news that the leaves are already changing is a wonderful surprise. We have never been west in the Fall, and in New England and North Carolina, the leaves never change until October. We are looking forward to visiting Park City.
