I haven't been in the old Smith Terminal in years. (I used to fly out of there regularly until the McNamara Terminal was built.) However, to answer your question, the concourses - A, B, and C - are all connected. You can walk from one to the other. However, if one of your gates is all the way out on Concourse A, you will have a long walk.
You might want to re-post your question on the Airline board. Someone there may be able to give you more current info. on people movers . . .

No, you can wander freely between them. If you wanted to leave the secure area, you'd have to walk from B through A to get out. But there are several shops and restaurants in A to keep you occupied, so that shouldn't be an issue.
If you have time, be sure to sit and watch the wonderful fountain in the middle of concourse A for a while. It's mesmerizing!

I believe they just opened new stores and restaurants in B as well. Good thing, there used to be nothing but a book store in B. You might want to check before you leave A what they have now in B, it is a long walk between the two.

The Detroit Free Press published a pretty comprehensive guide to the airport on Nov 13. It has info on parking, shops and restaurants, ATMs as well as security tips. It's at <http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...1032/FEATURES>
