It is truly shocking how many people cannot interpret a map. I used to interview job applicants where that was one of the job skills. Maybe 20% could do it well. Probably half were unable to answer the most basic questions.

I like to chat with the locals but not just randomly chatting with a bum on the street. More likely it will be someone used to dealing with tourists that won't mind the fractured Spanish.
