Out West
I want to plan a surpise trip for my sweetie. It's his 65th birthday. We will be spending 6 nights in Scottsdale for golf but I want to surprise him with additional time to visit Las Vegas, Sedona and the Grand Canyon. Not sure where to begin and end the trip, to drive to all destinations, etc. Don't really want to stay overnight in Grand Canyon. Thinking of doing 2 nights Vegas; 2 nights Sedona and then 6 in Scottsdale or could reverse and end in Scottsdale. Any suggestions??? We are traveling from the East Coast. Thanks!

Could you do Vegas, GC, Sedona, then Scottsdale or do the reverse? I have found that renting a car in Vegas is much less expensive than in Phoenix (for Scottsdale), but if you do a one way rental you will probably have drop off charges too, so check both options.
Why wouldn't you want to overnight at Grand Canyon? Sunset and/or sunrise without day trip crowds are fantastic.

Car rentals are cheaper in Las Vegas. It is about 5-6 hours from LV to Scottsdale. After Scottsdale head for Sedona and Grand Canyon. See Hoover Dam on the way back to LV. Lots of things to see in the LV area besides casinos.
