Bariloche- Llao Llao or Design Suites

Please help me decide, which one would you choose in Bariloche.Family of 4.
3 nights in December. Will have a car.

Buenos Aires, 3 nights, Four Seasons or Nuss Hotel.2 different neighbourhoods so
I thought Recoleta was the place , but it seems that Palermo may be the place to be?

Santiago, Chile, 3 nights, Marriott or Hyatt.
Thanks, Dock.

Consider a private home or apartment over a stuffy hotel. In Bariloche, we manage fully equipped homes (some of them lakefronts) that offer a much better value than a hotel.

Recoleta and Palermo are both very nice, you won't go wrong in either barrio.

Hi Dock, personally I always prefer hotels. Although I know nothing of houses in Bariloche except that there are very nice houses by the lakes. I know the location of Design suites , it is closer to downtown Bariloche than Llao Llao, it seems a very nice hotel , not a sfuffy hotel AT ALL. I like the location because having a car you are near everything, LLao LLao Hotel is on the same Bustillo Avenue but like 23 kms from Downtown. The area is beautiful, the view splendid, close to Puerto Panuelo from where you can get catamarans to all the destinations, however here you have an old stuffy hotel. I think the Hotel Llao Llao is good to play golf, or have lunch which is good fare with a great view. It is served like in an informal restaurant. It used to be great for a set price. Kind of buffet + waiter service .
The Design Suites I believe are like a couple of kms from downtown also on Bustillo Ave. same direction than Llao Llao.
I never stayed there but heard very good things about them.
I stayed once in the Buenos Aires Design Suites, totally different. I would not recommend them.
The Four Seasons is a very nice hotel and service is excellent. I stayed there once, breakfast is great and location is fine. Not exactly in Recoleta but a few blocks. I do not know the Nuss Hotel , looks very nice in the internet. Location is in the mist of Palermo Soho a new area where you can find many restaurants and nice boutique shops etc hype area, however if I have never been in Buenos Aires I would go for the 4 Seasons and have dinner a couple of times in the Palermo Soho Area., as in other areas like Puerto Madero for instance.
I summary I would choose the 4 Seasons and in Bariloche the Design Suites. In Santiago
I have stayed in a nice boutique hotel I forgot the name, the Hyatt is huge I remember however it has a good reputation. THe Marriot>? I have no clue maybe tripadvisor.com can give you an answer. Good luck. Buen viaje.

I wish to add it is a nice hotel but less quality than the four seasons or the Hyatt in Santiago, it was inexpensive too.

I have stayed at the LLao LLao and enjoyed the experience. The resort has a list of daily activities, with something for everyone. Excursions on the lake are highly recommended. With a car, getting to town should not be a problem. I have not stayed in town so I cannot comment on your other option. The idea of a lake front apartment certainly sounds appealing as well, particularly for a family.

In Buenos Aires....Palermo Soho is very trendy and Recoleta is more refined and established. For a family on a first visit, my preference would be Recoleta. For a young couple, Palermo Soho would get the nod. The Four Seasons is a very nice hotel....the Nuss is the latest in a long line of small boutique hotels in the Soho area. I have not been to the Nuss so I cannot comment other than to say the location is in the heart of the Soho district.....

I totally disagree with Graziella5b's description of the Llao-Llao as an "old stuffy hotel".

I have stayed there many times.

Downtown Bariloche isn´t nice at all. However, my DW sometimes drags me out there to do some shopping.

The way I see it, there is only one reason for a family to go to downtown Bariloche, besides shopping and that is to have lunch or dinner at http://www.elbolichedealberto.com/

Probably the best French fries I have ever eaten.

Have a great time in our country.

Another vote for the Llao Llao, it's in my top 10 of all the places I've stayed.

In BA, you can't go wrong w/the FS, but there's other hotels that are more reasonable and just as nice.

The advice from the Dr. is spot on!

Well may be the word stuffy was not a hundred per cent accurate , I am pleased to know that you were luckier than my friends, because I saw with my two eyes the below standard room they were staying in and it was not cheap. Service was slow, in general, the distances to rooms and main attractions are for me too long. Yes, may be stuffy is not the best word and I apologize to have used it but for me it is not a Hotel to recommend vis a vis with the new options in Bariloche as well as appraising the hotel through the room and services our friends got and this was recent as last year. THe panoramic view is outstanding, the golf course great but today the Llao Llao has sometimes lots of people crowding their hugh and nice hall which translate in some unpleasantness at least for me. I have stayed only once long ago so it does not count but I have been in the LLao Llao Hotel recently many, many times mostly for lunch in a very nice informal they have, not the dinning room which I do not like and find stuffy.
On the contrary I find the location of the Design Suites ideally because it is not located in downtown proper but as I said two or three kilometers on Bustillo Avenue going towards Llao Llao. They also, I was told are good in helping out with daile activities, but as we say in Spanish sobre gustos no hay nada escrito. Meaning people have different tastes.
Hope this helps.

I most certainly agree with my great "electronic" friend Graziella5b about her "sobre gustos no hay nada escrito".

I wish to add that I agree with avrooster 's recommendation for the boliche de Alberto, there is one Boliche de Alberto in downtown serving pasta, however they have another restaurant the Boliche de Alberto, parrilla ,specialized in delicious meat, and great salads and French fried I really found this one fantastic, it is located also on Bustillo Avenue at 6 kms from Design Suites and at
a larger distance some 15 kms from the Llao Llao Hotel. I guess distances are no problem in Bariloche with a car. A local bus also runs along Bustillo, however you must be brave at heart because they run like hell on the narrow avenue.
Along Bustillo there are other fine places to eat.

Thank you all, we are leaning towards, Llao Llao, Four Seasons
and Hyatt/W.

soulskier, I have been on your site, but the place we liked was booked during our time frame. I have been reading your posts on TA.

We stayed at Design Suites and loved it. The rooms were really a huge suite, with a bathtub with a view! Separate stone shower off the regular bathroom, and a balcony. I told the staff they had created a problem: I had planned the entire trip for 2 couples and I was sure it would not be this nice the rest of the trip! I would highly recommend the hotel. At the time, we paid $160 U.S. per night, including tax and breakfast. We took a cab to Llao Llao and had dinner reservations. We dress better than the average tourist, and especially for a nice dinner. Such snobs! We arrived near sunset, but were not allowed to even enter the lounge to view it from the windows, and we were "discouraged" from walking around the grounds. The place is for guests only, except for restaurant. The restaurant had no view, and there the service was attentive. $155 for 4
Have lunch at Boliche, a place half way between the 2 hotesl. We had a feast, ordering a ridiculous amount of food for $33 for 4. A great parrilla with a nice setting was El Patacon. $84 for 4 plus tip Pres. Clinton ate there.
Don't take the 7 lake tour--it's on a bus and really long day and not worth it. Take a trip on a boat instead.

For under $160 night you could have rented a 2 bedroom lake front for comparison. 7 Lakes drive is worthy if you rent a car, which we highly suggest our guests do!

Not everybody prefers an apartment to a nice hotel. I for one.
