solo in cancun

I'm planning a trip to Cancun solo and looking for some feedback. I have a paid for trip for 4 days and none of my friends are free to go, so I'm thinking of going alone. I've never been to Cancun and am looking for some advice. BTW...I'm an over 40 lady who is well-traveled and independent. That said, I don't want to feel uncomfortable. Any advice?????

I've been solo in Cancun several times and agewise I'm similar to you. Personally I love the all-inclusive concept as a solo traveler. I stayed at the Melia Turquesa in Jan and it's the first AI in Cancun that I honestly think I'll go back to. Rooms are a little small but certainly adequate. I had hot water, AC and a room safe that worked [no extra charge]. My parents stayed a year ago at the TucanCun Beach Resort [another AI] and loved it. And one of my secretaries just got back from RIU Caribe and liked it - they've actually stayed there twice.

Actually I have found Cancun much cleaner, safer, and more consistent in the last couple years than my trips 10 years ago, so you can't go too wrong. If you aren't interested in all inclusive, the JW Marriott gets good reviews. Don't be afraid to ride the tourist buses - they only cost 7pesos and will get you anywhere along the Cancun strip. They run about every 5 minutes all day and night - no need to spring for a cab in the hotel zone.

Good advice tigerhawk !!

She can just hop on the bus that comes along the main strip called "Kukulkan Boulevard"...then get off in downtown Cancun, walk around and browse and shop and then hop the bus back.

I'm not sure what you referring to that might make you feel uncomfortable. Going to Mexico? Or something specific about the Cancun resorts?

I ask only because I have been to Puerto Vallarta many many times, often solo, and love it! Clean, safe, fun. I have never had a bad experience in a dozen+ trips.

Have you thought about Isla Mujeres? I would consider it almost ideal for a lady traveling alone. Be careful, you might fall in love with it.
