First Solo Trip- Cancun?
I am planning my first solo trip. I'm 27, female and at a spot in my life I never thought I would be in. I have been to Cancun with friends, enjoy the atmosphere but am apprehensive about the nightlife and going out alone. I am planning on spending my days getting PADI certified, and lounging on the beach, staying in a cheap (but safe) hotel, relaxing and figuring out my next life move. Is there anything I should stay away from when traveling solo, or anything that is a "must-know" before I go?
Thanks!

Sorry never been to Cancun, but I travel solo all the time to Puerto Vallarta.
I'm not big on nightlife, if you mean dance clubs and such, when I'm alone. I usually go watch the sunset, then have some drinks and dinner somewhere, take a walk around downtown, have an ice cream, head back to the hotel and read a book or watch TV.
Don't get drunk, don't tell drunk men you are alone, don't get sunburned. Keep you paperwork and money in good order, since you have only yourself to fall back on.

Thanks Suze,
I am hoping to meet new friends in my PADI classes so I don't have to worry about being completely alone if I want to go out for a beer, or some dancing. Not that I would be completely comfortable letting them know where I was staying, or how much money I carry...
Thanks for the tips, I appreciate it!

My first solo trip was to Cancun (20 years ago and I was your age)and initally I was terrified to go alone but went and it was fantastic! Since then I have been all over the world and travel mostly on my own.
I made lots of friends easily and quicky. We did a few day excursions together and I went to the clubs with them at night. I stayed in a central location (Crystal Hotel) and could walk everywhere.
Just use common sense and the advice here is very good. When are you going?
Let us know what you decide.

Thanks Carla!
I plan on going Oct 1-6. I should have 2-3 days of SCUBA classes, and plan on relaxing the rest of the time. I appreciate the votes of confidence- the ticket is bought, now I just need a place to stay!
