Roatan, Beliz, Cozumel and Costa Maya by cruise.
Hi All, I'm posting this message again as didn't get any good suggestion regarding our above trip to the ports listed. Someone advised to check cruisecritic.com where we have only 13 members, not much activities in the forum.
We're a family of four, two adults and two children of 7 and 17. During the winter break ( Feb 13-22) we booked a cruise from Tampa, FL. Our cruise will take us to Rotan Island, Honduras, Belitz, Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico. Please advise us which tours we should take in each port. If you know any tour company at any of those ports, please tell us. Should we take the tours from the cruise ships or take those after arrival at the port which will be cheaper. Thanks.

Our ship was supposed to stop in Cozumel, but rough seas had us stop at Playa del Carmen. You ship will probably put you at Cozumel. There is a ferry going between the two.
A friend is doing a cruise to the same area as you next month. Some of the things suggested to her was renting a scooter on Cozumel. Going to the mainland to see Tulum and snorkeling at a cenote. In Belize, it was suggested to snorkel and explore cenotes. Roatan was suggested for beach time.

Renting a scooter on Cozumel is a pretty dangerous thing. There are many traffic accidents on a regular basis involving scooters. If you want to rent, get a small car. Much safer.
Taking the ferry from Cozumel to Playa, then a taxi or tour to Tulum puts you in danger of missing your ship departure if the ship is at port in Cozumel. If you decide to do this, sign up with the cruise approved tour, so they will wait if you are late.
Roatan has some amazing snorkeling.

We will be taking this same cruise in November and will let you know what we did and how it was. There are 30 of us and we are all going in different directions hopefully I will be able to give you good advice. I understand why you are seeking other advice than the Cruise's. We took 2 Carnival excursions and 1 local excursion on our last cruise and the local one was the only one where we felt that we were in a foreign country, plus all our money went directly into the local economy.
