J-
Wonderful choice!! I absolutely love Buzios and have been there many times when I lived in Brazil. Last time I went, we stayed at the Hibiscus Beach Pousada, which had bungalow style accomodations. Some units had own pool. It was lovely but somewhat understated, perhaps not luxurious enough for a honeymoon. But there are quite a few luxury resorts - check Buziosonline.com.br. But when I was younger, I always said I would one day stay at one place when I could afford it: the Nas Rocas Island Hotel. Check it out on the web...may be just what you are looking for.

also check out www.roteirosdecharme.com.br, which is a group of charming hotels in Brazil. They recommend Fazenda Blancpain in Buzios. Also other suggestions for all other regions in Brazil.

I stayed at the Casas Brancas pousada in Buzios last year, it was a very nice pousada, great breakfast and a very small dip pool. It is not on a beach but it is in walking distance to downtown Buzios Stone street. I chose it for its location near downtown. My taxi driver who drove me from Rio laughed at me when I told him how much I was paying for that pousada, he told me it was over priced. Maybe it was a little for what you get, I think it was about $120 a night, maybe it should have been $80 a night, that would have been more realistic. Also I scheduled through the hotel a ride from Rio to Buzios and their driver never showed up, I had to get my own taxi for $80 one way and I took a shuttle bus back for about $25. As far as Nas Rochas is concerned, I stayed there in 1985 when it was just a couple of years old, yes it was great, on an island, they are the only Pousada on it and they have their own boat to ferry you back and forth to the mainland. They are a distance to downtown Buzios. But several years ago I had a tour guide in Rio who I asked about Nas Rochas and he told me it was great at one time but it has gone down hill since the son's took it over from the father after his death. Now that could have changed and if it did its a great place for a honeymoon being so excluded from the outside world. They prepared the meals for you every night and it was just great.
I too stayed at Nas Rocas the week that it opened in 1985. It was a wonderful experience. I flew into Buzios on a tiny 4 seater plane from Rio's domestic airport - Santos Dumont. The experience of flying over Rio in a tiny plane was just the beginning of an exciting trip. It only took about 20 minutes to arrive at Nas Rocas private air strip on the mainland. We then took the hotels private water shuttle over to the island. My private villa was well appointed and sitting right on the rocks with only the sound of soft waves lapping up on the wooden porch. You can walk the entire periphery of the island in about an hour. The side of the island without villas feels like you are on a deserted island paradise in the middle of the ocean. Gorgeous. Yes, the food was wonderful. They had a French chef at that time. The service was wonderful. I understand that they did have renovations last year, so I think they should be back up to par by this year.
