Need help with air fare to Oaxaca!

I'm hoping someone can offer suggestions about getting decent airfare to Oaxaca.

Our trip is tentatively scheduled for February and we prefer an airline that will earn Frequent Flyer miles on either United or Delta. We'll be leaving from Los Angeles. The best I've found is a flight on Mexicana for $569.32. Can anybody find anything else or suggest consolidators, agents. etc. for me to check out?

Thanks in advance.

I have not flown from LA, but I have been flying to Oaxaca for years departing from Billings Montana, Little Rock Arkansas, Austin, Dallas and Houston- that price sounds reasonable. Getting to Mexico City is not the expense. Normally they tack on quite a bit for the 45 minute flight from Mexico City to Oaxaca. Your price is in the range of some of the bargains I have gotten. Maybe there are some screaming deals out of LA, otherwise the price sounds reasonable. You can cut costs if you are willing to bus from Mexico City.

I agree with Dude about the bus trip being an alternative. 6 hours seems a lot, but my family and I recently took the ADO bus line from MDF to Oaxaca. I was surprised at how comfortable the ride was. The price was reasonable, about $38.00 each.
There were 3 movies, and sodas available. Also, the trip thru the mountains had some of the most dramatic views imaginable. Getting a safe cab from the bus station was no problem.

Good information from Beethoven. Get your best fare to Mexico City and then go by bus. The best lines are ADO-GL or UNO--both really excellent services.
You can check prices and schedules at www.ticketbus.com.mx (best schedules are from the Mexico City Tapo station)
Enjoy!

Thanks! It's reassuring to know that the fare I found isn't out of whack. I'm not sure about the bus suggestion--this may be a situation where our time is more valuable than our money. But it certainly is worth exploring. Thanks for the suggestion.
