Hotels in Antigua, Guatemala

Can someone recommend an inexpensive hotel (posada) in Antigua, Guatemala? I'm going there for 2-3 weeks in September and don't want to spend a lot on accomodations, while major websites have pretty expensive hotels presented. Thank you!

Stayed there 18 mos ago. Safe and quiet. Rooms aren't huge but the price is great, includes beverages and free internet.

We enjoyed our stay at Casa Florencia. It's a small hotel and the owner is very helpful.

We also stayed at Casa Florencia - extremely clean, pleasant, good location and just down the street from a wonderful cafe (Fernando's).

Yes, Fernando's is reason enough to stay at Casa Florencia. So many great things to eat in Antigua. The coffee, chocolate, icecream not to mention real food. I want to go back just so I can enjoy more wonderful tastes.

Another vote for Casa Florencia. Very clean, well located and near Fernando's for great breakfasts in a lovely courtyard setting. We stayed at Casa Florencia for 4 nights in Feb. and we are planning to return.

Casa Cristina is also close to Ferdinand's as is Posada Los Bucaros where we stayed. it is a nice neighborhood, near the church of Nuestra Señora de la Merced

My fav is the Aurora, reasonable, good breakfast with great coffee, almost on the plaza.....so convenient & secure. Friendly helpful staff.

When I was in Antigua I walked by Aurora and peeked in. I thought it looked nice and it's in a really great location. It's close to the main square and many restaraunts.

Hotel Aurora is very nice. Ask for room 19, It's behind the 'private' only doors. This area is were the family lives, It is the only room set up for guest, we think it's for visiting families. Much nicer then the main 'hotel'.

I've stayed recently in both Casa Cristina and Posada La Merced; Fernando's is on the corner between them and their wireless works in PLM. Both hotels are very nice, clean, comfortable, helpful owners. I usually stay at CC but was with a group in early August that was too big to stay there so I decided to try Posada La Merced and was pleased with the choice.

Thank you all very much. Do you think it's possible just come and rent something right away?

Also, if anyone stayed in Guatemala City, what would be the choices there? I've heard that it's more expensive than Antigua and not that nice.
