hotel comparison, PDC

Any recommendations between Shangri La Caribe, the Mimi Del Mar and Playa Maya? They all look great - any reviews?

Try TripAdvisor. I just checked and there are currently 66 reviews there of the Shangri-la Caribe, 68 of Playa Maya, and 7 of Mimi del Mar.

Thanks, Steve, I'll do that, I just wanted to hear some actual experiences as well.

One certainly hopes that at least the great majority of those reviews are based on actual experiences!!!

I have stayed at Playa Maya twice and seen the other two properties.

I would say that Shangri La is the nicest, that Playa Maya is a good value for the location/facilities and Mimi del Mar is a distant third.

Wellll, Steve, yeah I think you got a point! But you do get a lot of "I've heard"s and it's "supposed to be"s...and I would be interested in recent visits. Where is your favorite place to stay there?

Diana,
I had it down to the Shangri La and the Hotel La Tortuga, with Playa Maya a third possibility. What did you like about it? You've been twice, so I would really appreciate your opinion.
Thanks,
Martha

Ok, Steve, just saw that you're the manager at Playa-Maya - guess that would be your favorite?????
Thanks,
Martha

What I like best about Playa Maya is the location - it's right in the middle of things and an easy walk up or down 5th Ave. (It's also one of the few beachfront spots close in to town.)

The cost is reasonable, and the staff at the restaurant/bar/beach services are super friendly and helpful.

It's safe, clean and a cute little place.

Not familiar with Mimi, but certainly a big difference between the other two is location. Shangri-la is a rather long walk to downtown - good or bad, depending on your viewpoint.

Oceanss, I've stayed at both PM and Tortuga. Can't speak to Shangri La. I stayed at PM this past January and Tortuga about 6 months earlier so I guess my info is recent.
Both the 2 I'm familiar with are really nice. You can't go wrong with either. PM is right on the beach but has a very small pool. Tortuga is a couple blocks off the beach but has a really neat pool. My first choice would be PM because of the location. It was WAY too convenient to get up in the morning and spend all day on the beach!
You will love the area and either choice will make you very happy. Be very careful though.....PDC is highly addictive.
