Recommended hotels in Playa del Carmen?

Looking for a moderately priced hotel in Playa for a mid-April visit. Prefer quiet location but walkable (even if long walk) to beach and town center. Any recommendations?

We stayed at La Tortuga Hotel in Playa a few years ago. A block off busy 5th Avenue, and about three to the beach. Nice rooms, nice (small) pool, good breakfast.

I've read good reviews of Playa Maya also.

Playa Maya is great; La Tortuga just did an upgrade on their grounds and I've heard they are really nice; Riviera Del Sol is 1 block from the beach and I really enjoyed staying there. I've stayed at Playa Maya too and love the ocean view rooms; right on the beach too. www.playa.info trip planning has a lot of info on different hotels also. Good luck!

Our friends always stay at Las Palapas.

Check out locogringo for lodging and other info on Playa del Carmen

Here is a list with pics of lodging along with aerial views so you can see where your hotel is located on the beach.

Hope that helps!

I would also have to recommend La Tortuga...such a lovely property and excellent service...not a far walk to the beach, and reasonably priced. Rooms are basic, but clean. Nice restaurant by the pool for breakfast, and close to everything in Playa.

The only other hotel I have personally stayed at was the Shangri La Caribe, and it's a bit more expensive, but absolutely lovely.

You will love Playa.........have fun! Let us know how it goes.
