help in Belize-Ambergris Caye
We went to Ambergris Caye at Christmastime 2004 and loved it so much that we want to return with our kids and grandchildren. With that many people(5+2 g.children)could someone suggest a house/condo(?)or other great accomodations where we could stay and not blow a budget? Would early November or October be too rainy? s when is the rainy season and how bad can it get? thanks for any help, leads, and advice.

last time i was on Ambergris Caye i had a conversation with a bar/cafe owner who said he shut down his business for the month of September because the misquitos (sp?) are so bad then. if that is the case i'd be concerned about the 1st part of Oct. from the bug standpoint, good luck!

Wow! yikes! thanks a lot! maybe the summer months are so rainy that the mosquitoes naturally follow...i just don't know if there is a time to go or different months that would be okay weather-wise and also not as expensive..

Another vote for Banyan Bay - that's our fav. (Have to admit though that it's the only place we've stayed!)
Have decided that Belize (San Pedro) is our new addiction, been there 3 times in the last year and going back for 10 days in July (friends have not-so-discretly mentioned doing an intervention...hehe)
At Banyan Bay, the 2 bed condos also have pull out sleeper sofa in some units, also there are a couple of 3 bed units. As for value - they're running a summer special where all units are $202 (vs. $250-275). Can't beat it.
Enjoy!

milliee - We've only been to Belize once but it was end of October first of November. During our time there we experienced rain 1 out of 10 days. Not even sure I would say 1 day because there was a torrential downpour one night with howling winds and everything. A little scary but we survived. The next day was overcast and it rained over in the evening. That was it. But like I said I've only been once so I'm not sure if this is the norm.

you all have been helpful and it is a delight to talk to others who love the same getaways as we do. We almost think we should keep it a secret...thanks again. if you have any more thoughts, please share them and i will go to that suggested websight.

We were in Belize in September and quite a few places were closed due to the "off season". We got pretty sick of that excuse. I am not sure how far into October and Noverber the off-season continues. It was still a great trip in the Off Season!
