Harbor Reef Lodge - Nosara

Has anyone stayed at the Harbor Reef Lodge in Nosara? We are going down for a surfing trip and was wondering about the hotel and conditions.

Sorry I can't help with the other post on adult beverages...we only drink wine and beer and I assume you're talking about hard liquor.
As for the Harbor Reef, you will be fine there. There are many types of rooms. It's an older hotel , but the owner makes sure things are all in working order and clean. The have a very good and popular restaurant (try the fish tacos, very good) and sometimes have live music. Access to the beach is an easy 5-7 minute walk. The grounds are very nice and they have a nice gift shop and a small grocery. My only complaint is that their pool is so, so tiny! If you're not a big pool person that won't matter to you. Tell Randy, the very nice owner that Alison and Rick from "Plumerias" (our hotel name which is being built right behind is house) say 'Hi!"

Thank you so much Ally. The photos on Harbor Reef's site makes the pool look huge. Oh well, that's why there's nothing better than the real scoop for real travelers - lol! About the beverages, I was asking in general....beer, wine, hard liquor. Thanks!

gigi,
I've seen hot tubs bigger than their pool!
As for drink prices, some places do charge more than others...for example, Marlin Bill's and La Dolce Vida will charge more as they are more upscale places. In general, it's the same as at home. If it's a high priced place it will cost more. Low scale will be cheaper. Olga's beach bar/ restaurant and the Rancho Tico in town will be the cheapest.

Jeff, no construction worries. The construction I refer to is at the owners house, which is not on the hotel property at all and you won't hear or see a thing unless you go about 5 minutes drive off property.

I have stayed for a week at the harbor reef back in 1/05. Service always boils down to the individual. A man named Victor transportation and the trips including a day to Bara Honda over the net, he was very helpful
When Iwas there the smell of sewer was blowing through the open bar and soda. You could also smell it every time you went or returned from the beach and town. Rooms were nice with small fridge however as soon as you bring out food your food is atacked by several species of small bugs and ants.
I would not stay here again. But if the sewer is fixed it is probably a good bet for the price. The pool is
too small. We had an awesome time in Nosara. In fact I am returning xmas and january for a month
