Guanajuato and Coyoacan Accommodation
Will be visiting Guanajuato and Mexico City in December. Are there small inns/casitas in Guanajuato which are similar to those in San Miguel? Does anyone know if there is any place to stay in Coyoacan area of Mexico City.

I was in Guanajuato in August. I did not go to San Miguel so I don't know how the accomodations compare. In Guanajuato, we stayed at the Hotel San Diego which is right on the Jardin de La Union. The Hotel was very nice as were the people who ran it. I would caution you to ask for a quiet room. There is a restaurant on the second floor that hires a band for the weekend evenings and opens early for breakfast. Our room was directly above it and very, very noisy--with the restaurant noise and the noise from the Jardin. However, when we requested a quieter room, they were very accomodating and the room was much quieter.
We also visited the Coyoacan area of Mexico City (Frida Kahlo & Leon Trotsky houses) but didn't stay there. Nice area of the city.
Hope you have a nice visit, we did.

You can try staying at "Hotel Real de Minas" in Guanajuato, is nice, clean and at a good price (around $50 dlls a night).
For coyoacan area, there's a hotel I can't recomend 'cause I thought it was tacky, but if you don't mind that the name of it is "Hotel Real del Sur" and it's south of coyoacan and I think its the closest you are gonna find. There's another hotel that it's not very close but it's nicer "flamingo's plaza".
Hotel Real del Sur - in Coyoacan - not so nice but the staff was very friendly. I would reccomend the Holiday Inn Zocalo - I got an awesome deal. Also, there is the Hotel Principal - Bolivar No. 29
