Argentina Itenerary help

Hello folks,

Need ideas to plan my itenerary from San Francisco, CA to ARgentina for 8 days for me and my wife. (excluding 2 days of travel to and from the US)

We are interested in a couple of things and
I just have a bare bones itenerary. Your inputs will be very valuable

1) Buenos Aries - 2 days
2) Iguazu Falls - 2 days
3) El Calafate - Perito Merino - 1 day
4) Torres Del Paine or Fitz Roy - 3 days

Is this going to be too hurried ? I cant extend my vacation beyond 10 days (includign travel). Do I have to remove something from
our plans ?

I dont particularly care for the big city experience. We are more interested in nature/spectacular beauty.

Thanks a lot in advance for your inputs.

TB

hi, i've just finished mapping out our itinerary for the end of December beginning January.
Do youknow that it's 5 hrs from Calafate to Torres. If by Fitroy you mean Chalten still in Glacier NP that is closer. We are spending 2 nights in Calafate which allows us a full day to do the Petito Moreno mini trek out onto the glacier and then 3 nights in Chalten 3hrs away for a variety of walking and glacier visits.

cheers

My disclaimer is that I can't speak from experience but I have literally done 100's of hours of research for my one month trip in Oct/Nov and from everything I have read, you will be extending yourself.

If I only had 10 days I would only choose 2 destinations. From all the great reports that other travelers have provided, I have gathered that BA deserves at LEAST 4 nights but a week would be even better.

I have also read reports of people that love Argentina so much they return within a couple of years!

There are some interesting looking day trips from BA as well. Maybe save Patagonia for your next trip?

Good luck deciding!!

Hi AndrewDavid, I arrive a few days before my boyfriend so for the first week I have rented an apartment in BA.

Here is what our itinerary looks like from then:

Fly to Salta and rent a car.

9 nights in this area between Cachi, Cafayate, Salta and Tilcara. Flying by the seat of our pants!

Fly to El Calafate

3 nights El Chalten
2 nights in El Calafate

Fly back to BA and take ferry to Colonia

1 night in Colonia
3 nights elsewhere in Uruguay. A friend has graciously offered to let us stay in their apartment in Punta del Este so we may take them up on that.

Our final 2 nights in BA.

Sorry to hijack your thread, Baba, but Andrew, what do you have planned so far?

I'm looking for nature stuff. Not a big city fan. Is Patagonia the most spectacular scenery in Argentina and Chile ?

If so, should I focus my 8 days between
Torres Del Paine and El Calafate ? Would the weather be OK in April ?

Again, my main focus is nature/scenery. Not big city experience. please help.

We feel the same way, albeit, in 8 days you may only do so much...As you are going in April, it will be getting cold in Patagonia (we went end of March to Ushuaia, it was cold). I would do BA, 2 days, Iguazu 2 days, then fly to Bariloche for 3 nights, back to BA the day before you leave (I like a day for shopping before my evening flight home).

We did the Torres Del Paine on our first trip, 17 days, with only 8 days, you will feel very rushed (unless you give up Iguazu, but I wouldn't miss that).

Good luck!

The NW is a great idea, SAlta has the same climate tO SAN FRANCISCO, and the scenery stunning! I would also choose two destinations and keep the promise to come back to continue enjoying Argentina. I know everybody wants to come and see as much as possible at once. A good barbecue whould be eaten slowly...
Best regards.
