XX shopping chromosome and Paris
Ok, OK...Women love to shop and I'm one of them...Planning a solo chick trip to Paris for all that Paris holds for ten days. Have plans to do all the traditional first time Parisian musuems, restaurants etc. Not a complete slave to fashion, but love all the recent fashion trends. In the US, shop everywhere from Salvation Army to Neiman Marcus. Would love to hear from contemporary Paris shoppers from 1st to 6th (and beyond) regarding any favorite vintage clothing shops or favorite boutiques, department stores. Merci.

If you like to wear great-looking shirts try Anne Fontaine; they have mostly white shirts, some beige, some black. I'm a white shirt/black pants type and I've gotten some wonderful shirts there. One is in the Marais, another is in an arcade of shops off the rue Royale; there are several around Paris. Also Galeries Layfayette and Au Printemps have small boutique shops of Anne Fontaine. Another name for great shirts is Rayure...found also in the dept stores. Have you heard of Teenflo (www.teenflo.com) ; they originated in France and are now also created in Canada. I LOVE their clothes...classics with a bit of an "edge" to them; they have a shop on the rue Royale in Paris (and here in Canada can be found in smart shops like Holt Renfrew and Mendocino). The Marais has all kinds of neat boutiques and they're open on a Sunday.

Herve Chapelier bags--sturdy, vibrant colors, every hue imaginable, and all sizes. Buy at their stores-- great one on rue St.-Honore and rue du Vieux-Colombier in 6th-- or also smaller selection in Gl, other department stores. Think website is www.herve-chapelier.com Spent hours in the store trying to decide what color, size, and how many. Make wonderful gifts!

Message Lori: Rayure shirts are sold only in fairly expensive shops here in Canada, virtually impossible to get. But I know they're quite a bit cheaper in Paris. I saw them at either Galeries Lafayette or Printemps though I'm pretty sure it was a whole little boutique area at GL. They have directories on each floor that list the designers on that floor.

Message: NYGirl Teenflo is not noted just for shirts. They make beautiful separates...pants, skirts, sweaters as well as great suits. They're not cheap...pants run on average about $200, suit jackets about $400 (Cnd dollars) Check out the website www.teenflo.com I didn't realize Teenflo was available in the US now..you might find a store near you and you can check out the prices. Or maybe the Cnd prices will be better. Anyway, have a great time in Montreal, it's a fabulous city and enjoy the great value you get on your American $$$ Wish I could shop in NY for the same deal!!! In MOntreal check out Caban on St.Catherines Street; it's owned by Club MOnaco. Also there's Rudsak, known for leathers and rather different fashions.

if you love handbags there's a tiny shop in the Miromesnil metro station - she closes in the afternoon for lunch (1 - 3 or 4) so try the morning or later in the day. Great lesser known leather bags - kesslord, lederer, lamarthe - for great prices. Bags you would pay 300 or 400 dollars for at home for about 60 - 100. Also, they carry some fun knockoffs of the latest trends (dior ysl, etc.) if you are looking for reasonably priced gifts. I was just Paris last month and hadn't been in there in two years - it was one of my first stops. Of course, you can never go wrong just strolling down the Rue de Rivoli - there's a number of smaller shops and department stores in all prices ranges. And I'm sure no one needs to tell you about the Champs Elysee if you really want to go to town. Have fun!
