Why can't I access the forums using Firefox?

Until this morning I was using Firefox on this site. I can access the fodor's home page but not the forums. I don't understand this. I thought fodors was down again until I launched IE which I shouldn't be using until I can get the spyware cookies removed from IE. I rebooted my computer and restarted it and still can't get Firefox to work for the forums. What I see is a list of the forums in blue on the left side of the page but cannot link to them.

Hope someone can help me.

I use Firefox on both Windows and Linux platforms and am having no problem with internet navigation, here or elsewhere.

That would lead me to conclude there is some problem with your particularly installation.

1. Are you using Firefox version 3.+?

2. Have you activated "Add-ons" such as script blockers?

3. Have chosen to block cookies from Fodors?

4. Navigate to the browsers - Tools, Options, Content and make sure you have Java enabled.

These are just a couple of quick suggestions but overall, Firefox should work just fine.

3.

I'm using V3.0.6 (I installed it only about 6 to 8 weeks ago).

Java enabled is checked.

I don't know how to block Fodor's cookies. All I did since yesterday was sleep. It worked last night but not this morning. I woke up this morning, opened the laptop lid and jiggled my mouse to get the computer going. Have done nothing else except reboot.

I haven't activated any Add Ons.

As I said I'm really only using Firefox until I get IE fixed. It works on other sites.

Thanks for your help!

I use Firefox (v 3.06) on a Mac, OS X, and am having no problems - seems pretty zippy, too. I accept cookies, but not third party ones. I only have Add Block Plus with the Easy list filtreset (love, love it!) as a blocker, and Java is enabled.

Hope this helps - maybe it was a problems with your internet connection, or a server somewhere?

The internet connection is working; my post is living proof. I don't understand this. Very weird. Could Katie be mad at me for complaining?

This is what I get when I try to access the Fodor's forums:

* [close] United States
* Europe

* Caribbean
* Latin America
* Asia
* Africa & the Middle East
* Australia & the Pacific
* Airlines

* Fodorite Lounge

All the forums show as hyperlinks but I can't get to the forum when I click on the link.

hmmm, that's weird - I don't have that problem. And, I have inundated Katie with emails, and complained in the forum as well, so that can't be it

But, at least you're here, who cares about all those other places?!

Very odd. I use only Firefox and as you can see I can access the forums just fine. Have you tried rebooting?

The problem is that I can get to other places with Firefox and I did reboot - that the first thing I did.

Thanks for all your help. Maybe I'll reboot again later and see what happens.

More weirdness with Firefox. I just looked at my web site and things that worked yesterday do not work today. Such as broken links that do exist and my home page photo that doesn't load (it loaded yesterday).

Maybe I have to uninstall Firefox and reinstall it. I can't think of anything else to do. Am I going to have to do this every 2 months?

Hi Ad,

Look up near the top of the screen.

See if it says "Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page".

If it does, click "allow".

Use the right mouse button to select a link and then "open in new tab". What happens?

If that fails then select "tools" at the top of the page then "clear private data" and get rid of all your cookies and saved passwords. The close & reopen FF.

what kind of computer - PC or Mac? anti virus software? all the permissions including Ira's above, set correctly? I would look closely at your settings. My DH wrote and manages a couple sites and has not had hardly any problems - using mostly a Dell laptop and his work PC, Windoze at work, Linux at home. Firefox at home IE at work, I think.

alanrow - you win the prize!!!!

I "cleared private data", closed Firefox, reopened and then it worked!!!

I checked my web site and the photo loaded and the "broken" link is now working. How amazing! I have learned so much on this site in the past 3 days, between the new forum format and my Firefox malfunction. This is sooooo impressive!!

Momliz - I have a Dell laptop, Verizon anti-virus. Didn't see the message that Ira mentioned so couldn't clear that.

OK - I'm exiting IE, running the spyware program to clear out the spyware cookies and will rejoin using Firefox.

Many, many thanks for everyone's help!!

No I tried using Firefox earlier today and it was SOOOO slow I gave up and moved to Safari. That's a little faster - but still way slower than the previous version of he site. (And nothing else is especially slow on either browser.)

After a very recent Windows update on my Windows OS machine, I lost all images and visible links in Firefox. After a bit of searching, I noticed that <i>load images automatically</i> selection had become unchecked as found in the Tools Tab - Options - Content box.

Anyone experiencing display oddities may want to insure the <i>load images automatically</i> box is indeed selected.
