Which beach in Greece should we stay at?
Hey Everyone! Me and 2 of my friends are planning on going to Greece and we wanted some input on where to go. Were only going for around a week and just want to relax and have some fun at night. We want to stay on the beach and want a place that is close to some local restaurants so we can go out at night. We would love to also maybe visit one other island as well. Any suggestions??? Thanks

Hi
When are you going? The islands are quiet in low/off season. Otherwise in high season if you're looking to party try Ios. Paros is great for kicking back - Pounda to the north of the island has a thumping night scene on the beach.

Are you travelling package or independent? If you are from the British Isles, you have many choices from the high street travel agents (Crete, Rhodes, Kos, Corfu, Zakinthos, etc) that are cheaper than anything you can put together on your own.
Otherwise, it would be helpful to know when you are travelling, and how you plan to get to Greece, so we can make intelligent suggestions.

Thanks Everyone for the responses! We want to travel in late April to early May, but do you think the waters will be too cold then? I don't want to go to just look at the water, I want to swim! I heard that the waters are cold until around June??? We will be leaving from Charlotte, North Carolina.

late April could be quite chilly, water wise, even in the south. Right now they are still getting chilly storms. Every year is different, but springtime is springtime unless you're in the tropics or on the desert!
That said - if you are looking for more genuine Greece, a quiet Greece, late April is PERFECT!!!

Niner, people from NOrth carolina CANNOT swim in April, even beginning of May! I swim in Long Island Sound, and I absolutely FROZE in early May .... the earliest I've been able to manage (and I'm an avid swimmer) is about May 15. Please put off your trip til at least then.
Also, can u only manage one week -- it's SUCH a long trip for a short stay. By the time you have plane transfer from Charlotte, change plans with layover and 7 hours time change, it will be nearlyl 24 hours to get there. If you are really just mainly goiing for the beach and the night life, why not go to the Caribbean?? Much more Bang for the Buck. Europeans go to Greece just for the beach for 6 days... but for them it's 3-4 hours, like you to Bahamas. And going south you will save SO much money on airfare, which you can spend partying.

Niner, I recommend you don't ask in Europe Forum, nothing in Europe is really warm enough in end of April ... look at a globe. Post in Caribbean forum -- or just consult online or local papers for a package deal to Bahamas or Virgin Islands. I like St. Croix, St. Thomas has more parties.

we were in santorini in june 05
the water was very cold when you had to swim out to the hot springs out near santorini island
quite a shock getting back into the sea after experiencing the springs
but even with that difference in temperatures the water was not what id consider warm- but it is really up to what the individual is used to at home - you might be fine in may -id be fine in august lol
