Which airport is nearest to Cinque Terre?
Hi,
Can someone please tell me is it easier to visit Cinque Terre by flying to Pisa and visit Riomaggiore first, or by flying to Genoa then visit Levanto first?? From which aiport is the easiest to transfer to train to get to Riomaggiore or Levanto?
Thanks so much!!

I think Genoa would be closest. You can catch the train from Genoa to the Cinque Terre villages, note that Levanto is not a CT village. The first CT village you would arrive at from Genoa would be Monterosso. From Monterosso to Riomaggiore, you would travel through all the villages (mostly in dark tunnels cut through the mountains), timetables are on www.trenitalia.com, it would take roughly 10 mins from Monterosso to Riomaggiore by train.

Actually, in terms of distance and convenience to CT by train, there isn't a lot to distinguish between Pisa and Genoa. I fly into smaller airports when I have the choice, just because everything seems a little less hectic. So my choice would be to fly into Pisa and then train up to the southernmost of the CT villages.

I think I would go to Pisa also. The train we took from Genoa took forever. The train from Pisa is about an hour. So really it's six of one, half dozen of the other. Which one suits your timing and budget best?
