I am about to go on my first trip to Europe and want to take some Euros with me. I was planning on going to my bank to get them. But I have looked online and noticed alot of sites where you can purchase Euros. They seem a bit pricey to me, but I was wondering if anyone else has used any of these sites.

Euros purchased in the US will always be pricey. If all you want is the first 100 to hold you until you reach an ATM, go for convenience and don't sweat the $5 -10 difference. If you were thinking of converting larger sums, reconsider after reading recent discussions on this forum; use ATM and currency as search words.

Note: UK is still with Pounds. Major airports have vendors that sell both Pounds and Euros. Current Euro rate is about 1.35, you can buy at $1.4. Airport and hotel rate may be $1.5.

As long as they aren't bogus sites, a euro is a euro so buy wherever you get the best rate. Which wouldn't be the US, obviously. I think some of those that deliver aren't too bad if they have a flat fee and you buy a lot, but it will still be more than what you'd pay in Europe. If you can get it for 5% or less markup over interbank, consider yourself lucky. I know AAA charges more than that, and Travelex is pretty outrageous.

Do a search for ATM, you invariably get a better nett exchange rate by putting a card into a slot than changing money at a bank / post office / dodgy looking guy in an alley

If you want a small amount for when you arrive change $100 to euros - or pounds or whatever - at the bureau de change in your departure airport. The rate will be awful - as it is anyplace in the US - but for so little it really dosn;t matter.

Once you get to europe use you credit cards as much as possible and pull walking around money from ATMS.
