What would you recommend to buy from Prague as souvenir other than becherovka and bohemia glass?

In addition to garnets there is moldavite, a lovely green stone that is found in the Czech Republic. Not all shops will have it, but it is worth seeking out. You will find amber items in most of the shops. Be careful in buying if you want the real thing because much of it made from pressed amber powder. Marionetts are a specialty of Prague and are found all over. IMO the best are found in a shop that can be found: Facing the Tyn Church in the main square, walk down the narrow street on its left and there will be a wonderful marionette shoop on the left hand side - you can't miss it. Lastly are decorated egg shells. Many of these are works of art. A shop with a fine variety can be found: Coming from the directon of the main square and entering Wenceslas square, keep going looking on the right side of the square for a sidewalk board with a picture of a decorated egg and pointing the way down a narrow alley to the shop. Although delicate, they pack them so they travel well.

I second the marionette suggestion. Truly unique and if you find the right shop, reasonably priced piece of genuine art.

Absinthe, yes! Also, we bought a little ceramic Infant of Prague that I like very much. I know, what a tourist cliche, but if you've never seen him before, the Infant is... eerie. Memorable.

I also agree with the marionette idea. Some are very artistic and beautiful and will remind you of your time in Prague.

I bought one 5 years ago with the last of the kroner/euros I had immediately before leaving for the airport and still admire it. I enjoyed an absinthe the night before too.

Garnets are a sepcialty and they have a ton of interesting jewelry. It's my mother's birthstone so we got her a lovely necklace that she wears a lot - even 12 years later.

I 2nd and 3rd BigRuss' suggestion! Not sure about U.S. Customs though with that.

Customs no longer bans absinthe. Same rules apply as would to any alcohol.

Further to KateRoss' post... A few years ago, inspectors found that many shops in central Prague and other popular tourist destinations were selling fake garnets (and amber). If you want to buy a fairly expensive piece of garnet jewelry, you might want to purchase from the only producer of Czech garnets, Granat Turnov.
