Weather in Ireland???
Hi there,
we will be visiting Dublin, Belfast and Cork in September.
I am starting to think about packing and am wondering what will be needed.
I was thinking about packing layers.
Will we need big, winter jackets at this time of year?
Thanks
Donna

I don't know if this will help at all... but I visited Ireland (Dublin and surrounding areas) in December. It was a bit chilly, but I don't think you'll need to bring winter coats come September. It does rain quite a bit and layers are a good idea. I am also Canadian so cold for me might be different for you It is a beautiful country, I loved it!

September can sometimes be quite nice. We've had such a bad summer this year that people are hoping for an Indian summer. You won't need a large winter coat - layers are definitely the way forward.

Ireland has an extremely moderate climate - doesn;t really get hot in summer and doesn't really get cold - even in the middle of winter. Heavy coats in September would be ridiculous.
Just be ready with layers, some long-sleeve tops and a couple of sweaters. Of much more importance are a sturdy folding umbrella, a lightweight waterproof jacket and TWO pairs of water resistant walking shoes. (In case you get a heavy rain versus the much more usual drizzle, wet shoes usually will not dry out overnight.)

Hello, Lordy, Hubbie & I were at the very same places in September. Global warming/climate change aside, I believe you have the same expectations. You can expect some blustery weather; wind, rain. But not too cold. Sounds like layers and an all-weather light coat will work well. FABULOUS place, have a great trip. Cheers, V McG'

Hi everyone,
thanks so much for your comments and suggestions. I appreciate them greatly.
We are from Australia and haven't been to the UK or Ireland before, so thought we had better check regarding weather details. I will definitely pack layers and take an umbrella.
We will be visiting these ports as part of a cruise with Celebrity.
Thanks again
