Irish Weather

"Some sunny spells with some outbreaks of rain" is the most popular daily weather forecast in Ireland. The locals often say that you can expect four seasons in one day! Warmed by the Gulf Stream, Ireland has a mild climate all year averaging 35°-45°F in winter and 65°-75°F in summer. With snow rare and summers temperate, Ireland has been called the "land of perpetual spring." It can be cool in May/June and warm in September/October or vice versa.

The ever-present showers keep the fields green and bring brilliant rainbows over the hillsides. Recent summers have been warmer than usual, with temperatures soaring into the low 80°'s, but air-conditioning is still a novelty. The grass stays green all year, flowers begin to bloom in February, and palm trees flourish from the Ring of Kerry to the Glens of Antrim all year long.

It's no wonder that the weather is a constant topic of conversation in Ireland. And there's one word that you can always rely on to describe the Irish weather: changeable!
From Pat Preston www.irelandexpert.com

Hi Rick
We were there the first of April and the weather was cool. We wore turtlenecks with cotton and wool sweaters and were confortable. (layers so that the top can come off if need be) Try: http://www.worldclimate.com/ It rained a portion of every day we were there except one so I would suggest a rain resistant jacket in case that is also your fate. It did not stop us from having a great time. Enjoy!

Hi Rick, My cousins live in Ireland so I like to keep up with what is going on over there. It has been a cool summer with plenty of rain. The last few weeks have been good. But you gotta expect rain at any time of year. If the sun shines make hay, otherwise have other plans. If you want a sunny vacation go somewhere else. Just being there is good enough for me. I like these weather pages http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/ukweather/radar.shtml and http://www.irelandyes.com/weather.html . Actually the last link is where I found the first one at!

I live in Dublin and so far its been a cool summer andrainy. Saying that it never rains they way it did in the usa. we get skmall showers and they are nor heavy and usually clear up fast so you could have a light shower of rain in the A.M. and sunshine in the afternoon. It rarely rains all day for several days like I remember in the U.S. Overall the weather is mild never too hot or cold and looking out my window now its hazy but I know it wont rain!

Being honest anything is possible. The summer just gone was very bad in June, lots of cloudy days with some rain, but then you could visit for a week and have glorious sunshine. That time of year it shouldn't be too cold (of course it depends what you classify as cold) but showers are possible. One of the best sites to look at is www.meteireann.ie This is the Irish Meteorological Service who show historical information on their site as well as the latest weather forecasts. Have a good trip.
I thought it was something more like "some rainy spells with outbreaks of showers."

Anyway, the summer in Ireland was horrid this year, until I arrived! Had nearly 2 full glorious weeks of sunshine and temps around 70 F. Couple of cool/rainy days, but aside from that, it was pretty darn spectacular. But I think it's now been 6 years since I've had such nice weather on a visit to Ireland (I go about twice a year).

And if someone can prove to me that temps average 65-75 in Ireland during the summer, I hope you will all enjoy watching the monkeys fly out of my butt.
