Walking distances in Rome
Can anyone tell me roughly how long it would take me to walk from the Ponte Garibaldi to Vatican City please. I keep looking at maps and am hopeless at gauging just how big an area really is and how long it would take to walk. We will be staying in via in Publicolis slightly up from Ponte Garibaldi so if anyone has estimates on walking distance from our appartment then even better. Thanks.

From your apartment to St. Peter's square by foot it will take you about 20min at a fast pace, more like 30min. It's a significant walk. Easily doable, but not a simple stroll.
Your apartment is just around the corner from Torre Argentina on Corso V. Emmanuel. This is a major bus hub. From Torre Argentina you can catch any number of buses that will take you all over Rome.
You will enjoy your trip to Rome much more if you use public transportation instead of walking.
There is also a taxi stand at Torre Argentina.

The are around via in Publicolis is a nice area. There is a nice deSpar market on Corso V. Emmanuel, right near Largo Argentina (5min from your apartment).
There's another market (Punto) on Via del monte della Farina, also just 5min away.
On Largo Argentina are 3-4 banks with ATMs as well, so no issues there. 2min from your apartment.
Vie in Publicolis is in, or right adjacent to the historic Jewish district, and there are several unique Jewish/Italian restaurants nearby on the pedestrian friendly streets.
Also, there is a 5&dime type store just around the corner from your hotel. I think it's on Porto Octavio. You can find all the stuff (non Rx) that you typically find in a CVS pharmacy in the US - sometimes you need this stuff for apartments.

We stayed in an apartment on Via della Reginella really close to the via in Publicolis. i think the best bus to take to the Vatican is the #23 along the Tiber (on your side going north, on the Trastevere side across the river going south).
We usually walked back and forth from Trastevere over the Isola tiberina which is a really pleasant walk ( with very old pedestrian bridges) but a little farther for you than Ponte Garibaldi.
If you want to walk to the Vatican I would recommend staying on the east side of the Tiber and walking along via Giulia which is a beautiful historic street.
We loved the ghetto neighborhood. It is a beautiful section of the city and very centrally located.
