I looked at some old posts on this topic and read great reviews. I, one out of four, would love to see this. We are in Venice for three nights in September and this concert is available on our first night or on our last night there. Has anyone seen this concert recently and when would you advise seeing it? Beginning or end? Thanks!

I'm going to be there in October. Is there a website I can check out for this concert? I love classical music and this sound like fun.

The Vivaldi concerts are held in different venues and some musicians are better than others. I happen to enjoy the concerts at Chiese San Vidal as the musicians are very good and the church is easy to get to at night (vapporetto to Accademia and then walk over the bridge). Here's a link:

Back to my original questions...would you go at the beginning or end or your stay in Venice?

What time do you have to be up on the third morning? If it's super early, go the first night. If not, make the concert a nice last night activity. Or go the first night and, if you fall in love, go again!

We don't have to be up too early as we will train to Perugia around 9:00. (Normal rising time at home is 4:45 a.m.!) Now that we have an option of the middle night, perhaps that's the way we'll go. Thanks for your input TDudette!

galelstorm - thanks for the link! I found a few events I'd like to attend while I'm in Venice.

We saw the Interpreti Veneziani at the Chiesa San Vidal a couple years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the performance. It was a wonderful venue, the music was superb, and the musicians are very attractive!

We saw one with an "all female" orchestra (to be like Vivaldi's)...only a couple of the players were men, LOL.

If location makes a difference, Chiesa San Vidal is a block from Piazza Santo Stefano, and the Ateneo di San Basso where the Four Seasons concerts are held is a block from Piazza San Marco. Both venues are decommissioned churches, and I think San Basso is older.

We went to the concert at San Vidal last year (late October) and thoroughly enjoyed it. We bought the tickets at the venue earlier the same day, but they were selling tickets up until performance time.

We also saw the performance at Chiesa San Vidal and it was terrific except that Tracy was a little disappointed because when I told her we were going to hear The Four Seasons she expected a rendition of Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You. I explained to her that Big Girls Don't Cry, and the evening was wonderful.

Once again, you guys provide a wealth of information. I don't know what I'd do without you all.

Like galestorm, we don't have to be up early since we're taking a train to Rome that day.

Jean- your info is great because we are staying at Corte Campana which is very near Piazza San Marco so the Ateneo di San Basso (where I originally checked) may be the one for us although it was slightly more expensive than Chiesa San Vidal. I do respect margaretlb's opinion on the musicians though.

We were in Venice after Rome. In Rome we had settled easily into the custom of having a very late dinner. We thought we could have dinner after the Four Seasons, but most all the restaurants were closed. We ended up with bar food that had been under the lights too long. (There may certainly be late night restaurants in Venice, but we didn't find them.)
