Visiting London, England for three days--Need help with sightseeing
I will be in London, England for 3 days in May. What are the must sees? Also, we will be staying at the Trafalgar, Hilton. Has anyone stayed there? Please let me know about some good pubs around the Trafalgar Square area.
Thank you,
Jo Jo

Most London guidebooks will have a section titled "What to see in 3 days" or "Best of London in 3 days" etc. Have you checked those yet? Also, right here on Fodors.com, if you click on "destinations" you can browse through the list of London attractions.

If the Trafalgar Hilton is located in or near Trafalgar Square, you'd be close to the National Gallery, and, if you're a classical music buff (not necessarily a conflict with looking for a few good pubs, at least not for me), the church St. Martin in the Fields is there in the Square.

OK -- London is HUGE w/ hundreds of sites. I agree w/ yk - check out a guidebook and also click on DESTINATIONS above and read at least something about London. Then come back to this thread and ask some more focused questions.
Otherwise we'll really just be spinning our wheels - since we have no idea what sorts things interest you.
As for pubs -- since you'll be venturing into other parts of London while sightseeing, you will be looking for pubs all over - not just near your hotel.
mohum: "<i>If the Trafalgar Hilton is located in or near Trafalgar Square</i>" Yes, the Trafalgar Hilton is right on Trafalgar SQ. . . . . . .

I have been doing a lot of research. However, I am interested in knowing what fodorites who have visited London recommend. I am interested in almost everything having to do with architecture, culture and gastronomy.
Thank you,

Could you be more specific? What styles of architecture: Norman, Gothic, Renaissance, Victorian, 20th century? What aspects of London culture interest you? And, the same questions apply to gastronomy. As previously stated, the options are numerous

You really do need to help us a bit here. We aren't being difficult - honest. Many of us have been to London MANY times - and there are lots of Fodorites who live there. Between all the members on here - one or another has been to every single site in greater London. So w/o more input from you, it is hard to narrow things down.
So far we know you like buildings, "culture" - whatever that means -- Art, music, dance, museums, ethnic neighborhoods, what - and food. Those cover just about everything. So what places have you already considered and then we can help you.

First time in London with 3 days: If you don't mind spending the money, take a full-day tour that includes all the biggies (St. Paul's, Tower, Buckingham Palace, etc.) then you don't have to worry with logistics of getting from place to place and you will have a guide to provide info. - also a Hop On Hop Off bus tour would maximize your sightseeing to your own time schedule. I would see the above 3 mentioned places, as well as Westminster Abbey, and the British Museum for sure. Then add Victoria & Albert Museum or 1 of the Tate Museum's if you like the art world.
Most of these places are closed at night, so see a play one night - check them out on Ticketmaster website. As far as food goes - after you've picked a hotel, check out the best-rated gastro pubs nearby. There's websites where you can pick the area or tube station, and it will show you the local restaurants or pubs with descriptions, prices, etc..

stucraw: What is your budget? Some agencies are more "posh" than others.
"<i>Prefer a central location near shopping and museums.</i>" Just about every part of central London is near shopping and a few museums. No location is close to more than a few. London is huge and the sites are spread all over - but you can easily get to anyplace from anyplace by public transport.
