Areas of London

Areas of London
I have been to London one time and have to admit I didn't get all of the 'areas' down. Can someone point me to a source for understanding places like West End, Soho and all the other parts of London or otherwise explain them to me?

There are scores of guidebooks on London - besides Fodors, Frommers, Let's Go, Access, Michelin, etc. There are specialized guide books - walking tours, bookstores, literary London, World War II London etc.
The National Geographic Traveller - London has a concise writeup of the history of each area and what they are known for today. Access London is divided by areas and highlights each area and what to see and do there.
The London Mapguide is an excellent very easy to carry around with good maps that give you a good sense of the how the areas are linked geographically.
Andrew Duncan has several good books on London - Village London, Secret London to name 2.
The best way to really get to know London is to walk the neighborhoods. Get a book that has several self-guided walks. Also, Original London Walks are a great way to get an introduction to London. I have taken nearly 4 dozen walks with them. I can highly recommend them.
