Villefranche sur Mer hotels

We'd like to go to Villefranche sur Mer after staying in Nice and need some hotel suggestions. My first choice, the Welcome Hotel is full. Does anyone know of any other nice places under $200USD? We would be willing to stay in one of the other nearby towns also. Thanks in advance.

We stayed at the Hotel Darse at the marina in VilleFranche Sur Mer for 10 days in May. Been to Europe 12 times and this is the best deal for the money we have seen in a hotel.Had a waterfront room, with sitting balcony, french doors, marble bathroom. It was the room on the top floor, at the corner of the building, top of the stairs (no elevator). So quiet at night we left balcony doors open as the cruise ships came and went. Absolutely great place. Sun over the med wakes you with the birds in the AM. We paid about $80 US double. It is in Rick Steves for more info, but we saw no Americans at the hotel. We didn't take breakfast there. It is 2 train stops to Nice (15 minutes), 45 minutes to Ventimiglia,Italy, (great Friday market), close to Menton, Monaco etc. We have been to this area many times and would always base out of here instead on Nice.

Seguess...I checked my notes, it was room 31 I think we had. My comments are endorsed by the tripadviser.com entries. Do ask for a renovated room. Their web site is hoteldeladarse.com, and the view is actually better than their website shows.

Have a good trip!

Thanks for the information. I'm checking it out now. If anyone else has other suggestions, I'd love to hear them.
Thanks!

We enjoyed the Hotel La Flore. Rooms were decorated in a provencal style, great restaurant, lovely pool and views over the old town and port below.

They have secure parking (if you are driving), the bus stop is a minute walk away from the hotel entrance, and the train station is a five minute walk.

If you book, the Category 3 rooms with terrace or balcony and seaview are best. (You wouldn't want a room facing toward the highway.)

We actually prefered the La Flore to the Welcome Hotel. With the Welcome Hotel sitting right at the harbor, you constantly have foot traffic and noise till all hours ---especially when military vessels or cruise ships are in port.

You can walk downhill to the port in about 10 minutes from the La Flore, without having the noise from the constant activity in that area.

If could live anywhere in the world, it would be Villefranche sur Mer. However, to fiend a hotel for under $200 a night, I would stay in Nice, and hop on the SNCF train to VsM. It's the first stop outside of Nice.

The Versailles, next door to the La Flore, is a nicer hotel.

Hello sequess, how long will you stay? We are renting a one bedroom apartment with balcony/sea views in Villefranche that would fit your budget but minimum 7 night stay? We will be there in 3 weeks (!) so can comment more then.

Rick Steves refers to a hotel by the name of Hotel La Fiancee Du Pirate which is somewhat back from the main town, but appears to be well priced with a/c and a pool.

Is anyone familiar with this hotel at all?
