La Perouse or Hotel Negresco in Nice, need recommendations..
Hello, could anyone give me advise on whether to stay at the Hotel Negresco without a view or La Perouse with a seaview?
The prices are about the same in those categories, and I've heard good reviews about both. Looking for great atmosphere and close to everything. How do the rooms stack up against each other? Thanks for your help!!!!

A room with sea view at Lapérouse is one of life's great pleasures. Besides the fact that Dufy lived and painted at the hotel--you can see his famous view of the Promenade des Anglais from the upstairs corridor by the elevator--the hotel has a good deal of charm. The Negresco, of course, has Belle Epoque elegance, but it's considerably farther along the Promenade from Vieux Nice and the flower market.

Thanks Underhill! I've been doing some research and I think you are right about La Perouse. We are currently booked at Le Meridian, but I
think for the same price, LaPerouse sounds like it will offer more charm, and not so much "chain hotel" feel. Appreciate your feedback!!

We stayed at Le Meridien last May, and while it was nice we thought it was considerably over-priced for a pretty but nothing-special room. Also, the lobby isn't very welcoming. The Lapérouse isn't a typical "block" hotel; it rambles over the hillside, creating nooks and crannies.

We stayed at LaPerouse in Sept. and thought it was wonderful - it was a bit of a splurge for us - we booked a "dollars and sense" rate off the internet and got a great deal but a low end room - not really much of a view but we still loved the hotel. Great bathroom, lovely furnishings, extensive breakfast on a beautiful terrace and great location close to Old Nice and lots of tasty restuarants. Also a very nice pool where we relaxed every day after sight seeing. Like the other poster said, the Negresco is further down the Promenade - I'd rather be right by Old Nice. Enjoy! SueC1
