La Perouse or Le Grimaldi? (Nice hotel)
Hoping to get more feedback in helping me choose between the two. Mainly looking for which is most quiet. Also good views if possbile, and pleasant, spacious rooms/bathrooms. Thanks!

We stayed at La Peruse several years ago - the bathroom was very nice. We got a cheap internet rate for a room that actually did not have a good view (hence the cheap rate) but I would think all the higher priced rooms would have wonderful views. We liked the location close to the old town of Nice and the promenade. The hotel was a ways from the train staion - Nice was larger than I realized! I think there was actually a bus station quite close to the hotel whcih we could have used for day trips but I didn't do enough homework! and we took the train instead.

I could not tell you much about the Perouse. But le Grimaldi was quite nice, with very courteous service and sizeable rooms. And the bathroom was outstanding. See it here:

As for the view, it looked like this at night:

Enjoy your stay, either way!

I've done a bunch more research and have decided on La Perouse. Now all I need to decide is which category. Hoping someone knows the "superior sea view with balcony" and can tell me it's not too terrfically small. It'll be that or the "deluxe sea view with terrace." Thanks!

We stayed at Le Grimaldi and would definitely go back, especially for the huge bathrooms with separate showers and loads of treats. However, I remember looking at La Perouse and thinking what a great location it was in. I was reading a book on Nice at the time which said the Nazis occupied the hotel during the war, for its strategic and commending position. You will see why when you get there.

We stayed at La Perouse a few years back. All that I remember is that the room was a nice size, and on the second floor of the building with rooms. 'Sorry that I don;t remember the category. If you didn't know this before, you will enter at street level, take an elevator up to the the major hotel complex, a number of floors up.
Good news: as long as the rest of the hotel guests are considerate, this is a nice, quiet hotel because of its location, i.e. on the cliff, removed from the street noise. It is an easy walk to the Cours Saleya, Old Town, and seaside promenade, but a longer walk to the train station (but do-able if you are a good walker) and other parts of town.
Bit of history: I believe that this building was originally an old prison or jail, built into the rocky hillside. It's been redone ;>

Hi SeaUrchin - the book is "High Season in Nice". My husband and I had the most wonderful visit there 4 years ago. We still talk about the 4 hour lunch we had!!

p.s. re-reading my previous post, should have said "commanding position"

Poss - our room was on the lowest floor of rooms - it had a small terrace and you could walk out to the pool area and breakfast terrace - because of the location so close to the public area we kept the curtains drawn so the room was dark. The decor was nice, the bathroom was very luxurious compared to other European hotels that I have been to, but the room really had no view. Rooms on higher floors would have much better views but as I said we got a VERY good internet rate but it was obviously for the least desirable rooms in the hotel. I was still glad we stayed there and would love to have the euros for a nicer room. We liked having a pool and the location close to old Nice, the promenade and a big park was wonderful. I'd certainly do it again!

Last October we had a superior room with sea view, and it was definitely small. Previously we'd had an upgrade to a deluxe room--big, literally, difference. The superior room we had was just a bit shabby, too, and small enough that when my husband was sitting at the desk with his laptop the only way I could get by him was to crawl across the bed.
After that we stayed at the Mercure Promenade des Anglais and liked the hotel much better--large room (we asked for twin beds, which equates to a larger room than a double in France), two sets of glass doors separating the room from the balcony looking out to the Mediterranean. The bathroom was very large and modern.
