Nice France Hotel options?

My wife and I (no kids) are planning a trip to Nice and Monte Carlo in January. We prefer 4-5 star hotels. Suggestions? How about "can't miss" restaurants?

Some of the luxury hotels in Nice are the La Pérouse (a small independent in a great location), the newer Méditeranée, abd Le Meridien. The grande dame of Nice is the Negresco, but it's not quite what it once was.

The deluxe sea-view rooms at the La Pérouse have marvelous views.

I second the recommendation of La Perouse. Our room had a fantastic view facing west over the promenade and the Med. It's perched right on the edge of the old town and pedestrian area--we ate at some great restaurants--none that were "name" but those are certainly around. Didn't care much for Monte Carlo but have only been there on day trips.

A few years ago, we stayed at the Hotel Westminster in Nice. We booked the top floor, corner room (#506) which overlooked the promenade. We had a large balcony with unbelievable views of the sea.

Our favorite restaurant in Nice so far is La Zucca Magica. It's walking distance from La Perouse.

On the other hand, we loved Monte Carlo. Have been there 3 times.

Not a fan of the casino, but loved the palace, the gardens, and just driving around the area.

To each his own!
