Sorry, I couldn't remember the other hotel's name. I stayed as well as Hotel Drei Kronen. It is near the University (visiting professors stay there) and very close to the center but not within the Ring. It is quiet, has an excellent buffet breakfast, across from a nice open air market. The family that runs it is very nice. You are 3-4 minutes walk from the U-Bahn. It is not as posh as the Arenberg but very nice and reasonable price.

I stayed at Drei Kronen also, it was roughly 70 Euros with breakfast. I too would heartily recommend it.
The market nearby has some great cheap food and you are round the corner from a fabulous cafe: Cafe Museum, which has a beautiful austere interior is designed by Adolf Loos.
