Vienna - have car need hotel
I know that parking is difficult in Vienna and I was hoping someone might have some thoughts as to a hotel (with parking additional) we could use or somewhere close to the subway with better parking.
Most pensions (Perschy and Christina) do not have parking and street parking is almost non-existent in that area.
Hopefully some of you have some ideas.
Thanks

If you don't have to be in the heart of Vienna, the Crowne Plaza has parking in its own garage (costs about 25€ per day, though). From the CP, you're a 5 minute walk from a U-bahn stop that will take you into town in about 10 minutes.
The hotel is modern, not traditional, but I spent a week there earlier this year and liked it much more than I thought I would. Rooms are spacious, very comfortable and have nice views of the countryside surrounding Vienna. It's close to the UN complex and as such draws an international business/diplomatic clientele as well as leisure travelers. While I was there, a CNN team was staying there and they were fun to talk to in the bar.
There were some parking lots near the hotel that may offer cheaper rates.

But...what's your budget and when are you planning to travel? We're tentatively planning a December driving trip that will include Vienna and we're planning to stay at the beautiful Grand Hotel, one of Vienna's palace hotels. From their web site, we found a double room for 239€ per night and by booking online with them, we're automatically upgraded to a deluxe room and get breakfast included (having stayed there before, I know they have a fab breakfast buffet). They have valet parking (again at the rate of about 25€ per day).
In our case, we're planning to travel with our own car so we have to keep it, but if you have a rental car, any chance you can drop it off at the start of your trip?

Hello BTilke
I have looked at the Grand Hotel and it is spectacular - you'll have to tell us about it when you return.
I can only wish that the Grand would be in my plans but, fortunately, I've retired from a full-time job and just do some free-lance work. This opens up a lot more time for travel and fewer dineros to pay for it.
So our visit to Austria and Germany takes in a full month and includes the rental car to get around in. it will have to stay with us - in a carpark, garage or ??.
I did try to reserve rooms at one of Vienna's famously named hotels by using my maiden name which just happened to be the name of the hotel. Unfortunately they saw right through me and offered me full rate!
I am looking at the Crowne Plaza and thank you for the recommendation.

Have you looked at www.hotels.de ? I've found they often have some of the best rates.
FYI, Have you thought of leaving your car in the long term lot at Vienna airport and taking mass transit or a taxi in from there? You won't have need of a car while you're in Vienna and that will give you much more freedom in hotel choices. Plus getting to and from the airport via mass transit or taxi is very easy.

LN, we have stayed twice at the Hotel Admiral which is located right off Mariahilferstrasse behind the Museum Quarter. It's a good location and prices are reasonable -- around 100 Euro for a double. They also have a few parking places for guests on a lot about a half block from the hotel entrance. Just be sure to tell them you want a parking place when you inquire about a room.

Hi again Betty
Seems like you've been a lot of help to me in planning this trip. I do thank you for all of it. This is a great suggestion and I've just heard some good news back from Admiral.
Now I just need to get Berlin confirmed. There I'm not certain which area to try to stay in.

LN - we arrived in Vienna with an auto several years ago and stayed at Pension Perschy, tho they do not have parking and you're right, street parking is nearly non-existent, they did give us a parking permit for a garage several blocks from the hotel where we got discounted parking. We pretty much left our car parked for the entire week, but we did have the in and out option. Hope this helps.
