Via Appia
I'm heading to Rome the first week in March with a group of friends, and - weather permitting - we'd like to spend our last Sunday exploring the sights along the Via Appia. The main focus for us will be the Baths of Caracalla and the Catacombs of S. Domitilla. I've done a fair amount of research, but there are still a few things I could use some help with!
1. How's the walk from the Baths to the Aurelien Walls / Porta S. Sebastiano? I can't tell if this section is closed to traffic on Sundays or not.
2. Has anyone visited the Tombs of the Via Latina? They look fascinating, but they are also about a 30" walk off of the Via Appia proper. I can't tell if they are open to go inside, or if a reservation is necessary - every website gives conflicting information.
3. We're also interested in the Tombs of the Scipios (Sepolcro degli Scipioni). I see some accounts that you can get tickets at the Museum of the Walls, while others say that you need to call & reserve ahead of time. Can anyone give a definitive answer?
