Venice: Nice Hotel near train station?

Due to a very early departure from Venice, we were hoping to stay fairly close to the station...

Does anyone have any suggestions? Hopefully under $200.

Also, a restaurant suggestion. We'd like to sit out or overlook from a sheltered spot if raining... the activity of the canal ... people ...etc.

thank you..

I have no personal experience with this hotel but Canal & Walter Hotel is a 3-star near Santa Lucia that gets mentioned often. You could check tripadvisor or post here for specific opinions. Rooms are 190-210 euro in high season. www.canal.hotelinvenice.com

Hotel Abbazia is about 200 mts from the Station, it's a 3 star hotel.
Check on trip advisor if this has received goor reviews from past guests, that might help.

Hi MM,

The hotel Capri is on a quiet square directly across the canal from the train station.

We thought it was very pleasant.

We stayed at Hotel Antiche Figure -- a charming little hotel directly across from the train station. It was very clean and beautifully decorated and the breakfast, though not the best we had in Italy, was fine.

We stepped out of the train station, wheeled our suitcases across the bridge and the hotel was right there.

Thank you all for your suggestions. None of the hotels had any vacancies for the night that we needed so..... if anyone has any more recomendations, I'd really appreciate them...

thanks, marym

*an exciting note! we were able to book 2 days with Luca between Florence and Rome! I'm so excited!

I'm not sure what their rates are these days, but a few years ago we stayed at the Hotel Continental--very close to the train station. We had a corner room that gave us a view both across and up the Grand Canal.

Check HOTEL LA FORCOLA, it's about 10 minutes walk (even less I think ) from Venezia Santa Lucia Station, and 3 ferry boats stops from the station (ferry boat stop SAN MARCUOLA). I have stayed there 3 years ago and I loved it. It's on Strada Nuova, in Cannaregio and again, not very far from the Station and from St Mark's square.
