hi Deborah,

years ago [about 8 i think] I stayed here whilst on a choir trip to Venice:

http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_R...ce_Veneto.html

it was fine for what it was, and pretty quiet for the position. I walked past it a couple of times on my most recent visit [i got back from a week there about 10 days ago] and it didn't seem to have changed much.

if you don't mind being the other side of the grand canal [about a 10 minute walk from the P. Roma over the new bridge or jump on a vaporetto] it would be fine.

I had a look at the other two on the internet - the Santa Chiara is a lot more expensive [and I remember seeing it while i was there and thinking that it would probably be noisy as it's right on P. Roma] and the Locanda seemed to be full.

Have you looked at TA for your dates and seen what is available round the P. Roma if that's where you want to be? [though I'm not sure that that's really essential if you pick somewhere close to a vaporetto stop - you still have to get back to the P. Roma at one time or another!]

good luck with your search.

What a bunch of weirdos!

Why would anyone want to stay at a horrid airport hotel?

Do you losers really like to hang out in hotel lounges drinking warm beer and watching Sky News?

What an absolute Brechtian nightmare!

You can get the Orange Line Alilaguna right from the docks at Marco Polo straight to Stop Madonna dell' Orto.

The Boscolo dei Dogi Hotel is a short walk away.

Expensive, but you can afford it for one night and you are in the quiet, non-touristy part of Venice.

There is nothing worse in life than an airport hotel!

Thin, I'm slouching with you.

BTW, have you managed to answer Percy's challenge yet?

Who is Pursey?

Is he the African bloke who sells the fake Prada bags in Campo San Stefano?

"Hey, you, Prada, this is Prada! You know the price. You know! You know! Hey!"

I think that you know very well who Percy is, Thin [for others, he challenged Thin to find the answer to a couple of my questions about Venicel after Thin had been dissing my quiz, to use the vernacular].

here's the link:

Seriously? I've never experienced this type of verbal attack on any forum board

Deborah - welcome to the weird and wonderful world of fodors.

Most of us are quite normal but there's the odd one who could politely be described as a little eccentric. however, what you lose in "politesse" you gain in the almost limitless generosity of the vast majority of Fodorites who want nothing other than that you have the best possible holiday. I have certainly learnt a lot here [and made not a few friends, some whom I've actually met] and if you stick around, I'm willing to bet that you'll learn a few things too.

Anyway, it wasn't an attack on you, and I'm sure that those who were the butt of it can cope - they know not to take any notice.

hope you stick around - I'd like to know what you decide to do!

Verbal attack?

Sweetie, that is seduction coming from me!

You may not like me but I know my stuff.

And I know Venice.

Since you only have two nights in Venice ( which equals 1 day) pre-cruise, take advantage of being IN Venice for this extra day. Venice deserves more than 2 nights. I was leaning toward the airport hotel until I found out how short your time is pre-cruise.
