What are your opinions about Hotel Colombina in Venice? It looks beautiful and seems very conveniently located.

The hotel gave us a double room facing the courtyard for 385 Euro and a canal facing room for 410 Euro - how does that sound for those that have stayed there, are those reasonable rates? Any suggestions as to how to get a better rate? I figured going through the hotel directly would accomplish that.

While we're at it, any other suggestions on hotels at a similar rate?

I have not stayed there, but two years ago I "inspected" it--it had been open less than a year. The reates were lower at that time, the doubles I saw were about 300 or 325 euro at most.

I saw a couple of double rooms, don't know if they were standard size or not.
Both happened to face the canal. It's quite a small canal by the way, so that might make a difference in your decision.

The location is outstanding, 5-7 minutes walk to San Marco and/or vaporetto stop. The area is busy and central, but the rooms I saw seemed quiet.

Rooms I saw had traditional decor but were light and airy. Not overly large, but not tiny. There was a pleasant breakfast room on the main floor,and the staff were very nice and eager to show me the rooms. I'd absolutely consider staying there myself.

Hi-

Last year, after much study, we decided to stay at the Columbina--it looked perfect!

And, wouldn't your know, we couldn't get rooms!

But we found and stayed at the Ca' dei Conti, located in the same vicinity, I think, and just loved it.
It's on a small beautiful canal, the rooms were by far the largest and prettiest we had on our trip, and the staff were very nice.

I think the rates are comparable to the Columbina. Check it our at www.cadeiconti.com.

I don't know if these questions have been addressed yet for the Colombina, but I was curious about the rooftop terrace...
Will this be open toward the end of May?
What is actually served on the terrace? Is there breakfast served? Or is there only a bar to serve drinks and snacks?
And what are the times of this service? How late do they serve drinks at night?

we think we're getting room 204 - anyone stay there? what category room is that considered? it should be facing the canal.

also, just curious, for those of you that have stayed there, does the Colombina give everyone a complimentary welcoming bottle of wine/champagne?
