Venice 2 nights/1.5 Days
My fiancee and I are passing through Venice for 2 nights (approx 1.5 days IN Venice). Wondering about any recommendations for accommodation (approx around 65Euros or LESS), must-sees, and any tricks for first-timers on a quick stay in Venice! Thanks for your help!
Also, is the easiest way to get to Rome via train? My better half is toying with the idea of renting a car for Italy....

Have you done any research into hotels? Sights in Venice? Train service in Italy?

For accommodations try www.venere.com and www.bookings.nl and search for your dates, then click the tab to search by price, and then look at the ratings: things rated (all people who booked are surveyed) 8.0 and over are sure to be great, 7.0 and over are likely to be decent on either booking engine. If you can stay away from Cannaregio (the glut of hotels close to the train station) chances are you will have a better experience.

Yes, I have searched hotels and numerous things to see and do; just looking for any recommendations from people who have stayed for a good price in good area... and we ended up booking in somehwat inconvenient areas in the past solely going off rating on those sites.

If 65 euro per night for two is your hotel budget, I suspect you cannot afford to rent a car in Italy. There are high fees for fuel, parking, tolls, mandatory CDW, and very high fees traffic tickets for violating the Limited traffic zones in towns and cities.
Inconvenient areas to avoid: Mestre and Lido. However, at your low budget, those locations may offer the best options. Check Tripadvisor.com for lots of hotel reviews.

eurocheapo.com/venice great budget hotels with
great price points IN venice avoid mestre or lido
Stay in Dorsoduro or Canareggio for best values
Car expensive always a bad idea regional trains like a local
always cheapest for me last May 5 euro Rome to Florence
similar to Venice seat61.com/italy fast trains nicer more $$$
In May for 59 euro booking www.otel.com picked up #211 a
cute little canal view suite in the Dorsoduro
www.hotelpausania.it it was VERY NICE for price.
Hotel Alla Salute another inexpensive Dorsoduro hotel but
decent close to San Marco.
Just booked a superior there www.booking.com
for $100(free for me used Amex points)
Happy Planning!

In May my wife and I did the FrecciaArgento fast train
Venice to Rome bit over 3 hours 78 euros very nice
I prefer the regionals cheaper but let her win since
we were in a hurry. It is the fastest not the cheapest.
We paid $69 for the hotwire.com"secret" south Rome Hotel
The Sheraton Roma awesome value with sirport shuttle
We saved a tonne!

My DH and I spent 1.5 days in Venice in September. The first night we did a "Murders and Mysteries" walking tour, which I found out about here in a trip report. It was great! The guide was very knowledgeable. The second night we went to dinner.
The rest of the time, we just walked. We decided not to go to any museums or churches, but just walked around soaking in the atmosphere and making photos. One day we'll be back, for a longer amount of time, and then we'll be able to see Venice properly. But this was a good introduction.
