Vatican Garden Tour

Has anyone taken this tour. We'll be there October 21, 2009?
Thanks for any input you have.

Gramsy...

I'm interested to see the responses to your question since I'll be taking this tour on October 12th this year. Can't wait! I've seen some pictures of the gardens and they look beautiful.

I took this tour in the late summer a few years ago and found it not only beautiful but restful, serene. I however have so reservations only b/c it is October. Last fall we went to the Borghese Gardens and it was dry. Looking back at photos the water elements and statuary will still be great. If you have a chance try to look at it from the top of the basilica before you go.

Could you tell me about the Vatican garden tour. How do you book it etc? I booked a
tour through my travel agent in May 2008 before we left for Italy I was told it was
cancelled. We are going again in May and would love to go! Enjoy your visit.

From the Vatican website:

Q. If I buy a Guided Tour for the Vatican Gardens, is it possibile to see the Vatican Museums with the same ticket?
A. Yes, but you have to visit the Museums on your own (without a guide).

We took it a couple of years ago and it was mildly interesting. They drove us up to the highest point in a tiny bus and we walked down from there. the guide wan't very good - and didn't point out or explain several interesting buildings in the grounds - and seemed irritated when I went to explore an obviously ancient chapel with a sign on it. (It turned out to be very important historically - and open - so I explained to may companions and some of the other members came over to listen.

So the tour ended up being fascinating - but the guide not so much.
