Undiscovered Places in Paris
#63
I kind of sense what the OP is seeking:
Parc Buttes de Chaumont: maybe on a weekend, to see folks "being" in a very beautiful park(rolling paths, hills, lakes, even a waterfall) with an interesting history.
Jardin de Luxembourg: same
Canal St. Martin: lots of "hip" shops on either bank
Promenade Plantee (or, Coulee Verte): any day, to see folks jogging, walking, etc on the elevated greenway near the Bastille
I'd encourage OP to learn as many French phrases as possible, so she could "relate" more to the Parisians than if she knew no French.

Maybe more than a tad late . . . The OP traveled more than eighteen months ago.

Certes mais encore eut-il fallu dans ce cas s'assurer d'une bonne prononciation desdites phrases, car dans le cas contraire tous ces efforts seraient vains et ne rencontreraient qu'indifférence polie voire incompréhension totale.
I like that thread, let us keep it alive, good things here.
Btw something asolutely not toursity but quite nice is the
'Louxor' a recently renovated movie theater looking like it must have been in the 20's. A nice place with some non commercial programmation. Possible to drink upstairs - maybe without having to watch a movie ...

(yes, it is just in front of Barbes, which according to some is a gritty area, a no-go zone. I like it actually.

That's good, absolutely fine -- I only mentioned it because the two bits I quoted were specifically addressed to the OP . . . who ain't interested no more.
Just so others don't think they are helping the OP like >>I kind of sense what the OP is seeking: . . .<<

The Louxor is one of many Art Deco buildings hidden away in less traveled areas of Paris. Two more are the Cinema by Henri Sauvage at Gambetta, and the Church of the Holy Spirit in the 12th with paintings by Maurice Denis and other Nabis.

Some of the very best threads (and sometimes worst) are ones that take on a life of their own after the OP has long left the building. So what if a few still believe they're helping one person when what they're really doing is providing a resource for lots of us. Reminders are wholly irrelevant. (As is mine, I'm afraid, it does no good.)
