Good Time for Paris? Hotel Cancellations at 25%...

which means a lot less tourists and maybe cheaper hotels - and maybe schedule stays Mon-Fri? (NYTimes today say cancellations were down 25%.)

The protests in Paris are mainly on weekends and they are probably localized and easy to avoid. Museums, metro, etc of course may be closed but Mon-Fri not so much it seems?

The Chinese are in Paris in DROVES!

You can't even get into Laduree because they are buying up all the macarons, and they are at Dior in the Avenue Montaigne ripping the merchandise off of the shelves.

When Keith and I had lunch at Pottoka in the Rue de l'Expedition, the Chinese woman next to us had a fur coat that would rival anything my Cousin Muffy has in her closet and she is married to one of the Hohenzollerns!

I don't think Paris needs the Americans. 🐩

Interesting observation, especially as we saw very few Asians in Paris (or Nice) last April. Where were they all hiding?

If Yanks abandon Paris France could more go into recession and if Chinese oligarchs don't come it would be a depression and locals could take their city back.

Pal -- if cancellations are DOWN 25% as you posted . . . then rooms would be MORE scarce/in demand. Was this a reading comprehension failure or just another silly NYT article?

which says: Tourism has also been affected, with hotels recording cancellation rates as high as 25 percent since the protests started last month. American and Japanese tour operators have been advising customers not to travel to France, according to the National Federation of Tourist Offices.

I know many were cancelling hotels in the areas where the protest were and booking elsewhere. Then there are those that cancel and stay home. Hoping for a quiet weekend in Paris.

Thin, the lines to get into LV on Friday night were long. I think they were in panic mode they wouldn't get that purse. I ordered my Marvis toothpaste on line. It is only at certain pharmacies. That lady in line with 30 plus tubes got me really wanting to try it.

I have a friend in tourism in NI and he said Chinese tourism in December is very busy. They vacation at that time of year plus students travel during school closings in the UK and don't go home. I was amazed at the same thing in February.

What are the affected areas vs. the non-affected areas? It might affect my hotel bookings for March, or not.

Affected areas: Anywhere around the Champs Elysees, Avenue Foch, Avenue George V, Avenue Kleber, Avenue Montaigne.

The 1st arrondissement around the Carousel De Louvre, Tuileries, Rue Rivoli.

Avenue Opera, Grand Magazins.

Also be warmed that many Metro stations were closed. For example, Opera Metro Station was closed this Saturday, as was Concord.

Great information - thank you, Thin. I like that particular area for which you just posted a picture because you can often get great deals there. So I'll rethink that strategy.
